Hair styles and general fashion. Also, for interior pub, cafe scenes, whether characters are smoking.

The backdrops, check out doorstep scenes from Corrie as recently as the 80's -obvious painted backdrops facing the 'street' in interior scenes.

Pat, Nick, Mary and Dot were regularly sparking up cigs in scenes. Although Max, Cora and Shirley still smoke in the odd episode of Enders very occasionally don't they. |

BIB - Yes - when I've watched old clips of Walford, it's odd to see characters like Pat and Carol smoking in some of them at first.

You can tell from looking at everything in general really.
I don't know if I've imagined this but the acting in old episodes is very different to how it is now. It's like you can tell it's scripted and their bad at acting :/ |

For EastEnders, the background music in the pub or the market is the thing I notice most.
With Corrie, it used to be Bet's hairstyles. You knew it was a 70's episode when she had it long, an 80's episode when it was bigger than all the hair on Dallas and Dynasty put together and a 90's episode when she looked like a drag queen. |

The lighting : in the olden days, all the scenes were lit with what seemed like the floodlights at Old Trafford.....the interior scenes were way too bright.

The characters had more dialogue back then - conversations appear to be much longer and more detailed than they are nowadays.
The set was less flamboyant back then, everything was kept pretty simple. |

Agree with Eurostar - studio lighting has changed drastically over the years and it dates a lot of the eps from years gone by. At one point in the 1970s, I'm sure everyone in soaps looked orange because of the unnatural lighting. Now they look like they're sitting in the dark. ![]() Quote:
