I am looking for a new Humax HD recorder and I don't know which to choose
I have both Satellite dish and terrestial aerial I have full Freeview coverage. So which is better, Youview for Freeview or Freetime for Freesat? |

YouView is 'better' as it's got massively more support, the Freesat system was supposed to be YouView as well, but was mysteriously made non-compatible with little or no notice.

Youview and Freetime are basically the same thing; both giving you catchup players and backwards scrolling EPG for the four main broadcasters. Very little difference as it stands unless you want some pay tv from Sky.
The channel line-ups differ slightly on each platform so worth checking to see which you'd prefer. Also worth checking to see whether or not you'd be able to get the new BBC-HD channels on Youview as you're area may not be served, but they will all be available on Freesat regardless. You could always get a Freesat freetime box for main viewing, recording and catch-up and use your tv's inbuilt freeview tuner to watch the odd channel not available on satellite. Best of both worlds.

There is indeed a UTV Player. However it's not at all clear if it is available on Freetime. The Freetime website only seems to mention ITV Player as far as I can see.
http://www.freesat.co.uk/help And the UTV Player FAQs don't mention Freetime either http://www.u.tv/utvplayer/faqs Contrast that with ITV Player which does mention Freesat, but not Freetime explicitly. https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/help/faq/6 |

http://www.freesat.co.uk/help] I also sent email to UTV to ask why is UTV Player not available on Freetime. I will let you know their reply in due course. |
