Sony Ericsson
Apologies if this is a daft question for some people. I have always understood that a battery had to be virtually flat before you could charge it. If you didnt then you risked damaging the battery. Is this right or can I charge if only half the life has gone?

Ive heard lots of people saying that you shouldnt charge batteries unless they are flat, but i dont know how true that is. Ive looked a couple of phone manuals and i doesnt say anything about it in there so surely if you shouldnt do it, then it would tell you in the manual.
On all phones I have charged them with only half the battery gone if not less, and i havent had any problems! |

I charge my Sony Ericsson T230 nearly every night when I goto bed. I did hear someone say that you should wait untill battery is dead or nearly dead. So the life of the mobile battery will last longer.

It all depends on the type of battery. If you have an old phone with a nicad battery then you should indeed wait until it is flat before recharging.
The vast majority of phones bought in the last four years will not have nicad batteries and you can charge them as often as you like. You should follow the instructions in the manual and give the battery a good charge before you first use it. Some types of battery benefit from occasionally letting them go flat, but this will be mentioned in the manual. |

Most new phones are Lithium-Ion batteries, which you can charge when you like for as much as you want.
