I am of course referring to Alfie "Marblemouth" Moon!! Seriously, I just don't get the attraction at all, he's about as interesting and masculine as a bowl of semolina pudding!:sleep:

Kat loves her "man in the moon" because she knows that he'll forgive her no matter what, he "gets her".........translation: he's a spineless eejit!

Roxy loves "grandad" because he offers security and loyalty, at least in her imagination!

Interesting how the two nicknames each woman has are poles apart, one is romantic and strong the other is safe and cuddly.

He probably is more safe and cuddly and he has his moments of romance, but he is not a strong character at all and the way he has treated Roxy shows just how horrible and selfish he really is deep down. He lied to himself and even after realising how he still felt about Kat, continued to lie to Roxy because he's a weak, cowardly man. FGS, he makes Ian look like Superman at times!

And now that he's no longer the landlord, it will only be a matter of time before he starts to mistrust Kat again, whether or not she actually cheats on him...........and round and round we go, again.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of characters returning because they generally end up as a disappointment, and Kalfie is no exception, they need to go and stay gone this time!!

Apologies for long post, rant over!

Agree with every word. The man is a cretin, always has been, always will be. That's character and actor.

I've always disliked Alfie and I agree that they never should have returned. Sometimes stories and characters are done and shouldn't be brought back.

Just as in life those with confidence and that can make people laugh normally get the woman. With that said in soaps just about everyone will be involved in a affair storyline. Dot cotton will be next up!

But he doesn't have confidence. It's a load of flannel.

Last night when he said to Roxy that he'd always be part of Amy's life I couldn't believe it. He's as crass a moron as there has ever been in soap.

That annoyed me as well, the ego of that man's unbelievable. Alfie and Kat probably deserve each other, they're both selfish & don't really give a toss who they hurt.

I don't know what you guys are on because Alfie is one of the best characters in EE. Kat, however, is awful

I think Alfie's a great character too and Shane is a good actor. Kat cheated on him one too many times though and it sort of ruined her character.

Gobshite makes me laugh!
It's an Irish word meaning "a person who talks a lot of sh*t" I remember Father Jack using it several times in 'Father Ted'

I do like Alfie as a character and Shane acts him well. I can see why Roxy fell for him at the beginning. Ronnie was in prison, Christian was loved up with Syed and Roxy was lonely. Alfie was her best friend at the time - he usually has a very kind, open and warm personality with humour and softness.

He initially rejected her and stayed loyal to Kat because like Bradley, he's not really the cheating type. It was inadvisable of Roxy to grab Alfie moments after he threw Kat out for cheating but Alfie's not a very strong person - he was torn up and Roxy was there for him.

Look what happened with Little Mo. He probably did love her but Kat was the one for him in the end - he saw Kat and Little Mo at the same time because he didn't want to hurt either of them (though this ironically ended up in them both getting hurt) ajnd he didn't have the guts to be assertive and make it clear to Kat that he'd moved on. In the same way he didn't have the guts to come clean to Roxy about his true feelings until the wedding day.

Excellent post and I completely agree. I loathe Alfie and I loathed his relationship with Roxy and Kat and now the reunion.
Alfie is not her f***ing man on the moon, it makes me cringe whenever it is mentioned. They certainly don't belong together, they are awful together imo.

I just recently watched an old ep of New Tricks with Shane Richie in it and the transformation was remarkable. He really made a good villain in that ep. Shame they can't toughen up his character in EE.

LMAO They are a pretty pitiful bunch. It is kind of like sitting in a parking lot in my town and watching all the guys go by and thinking WTF...the more that come the uglier they get. Double baggers.

Sorry - I didn't notice the "EE", and assumed (as you would) that it was about peter barlow in Corrie.

I think her character is redeemed now!! Lorraine Newman did well to spend the last 12 months bringing her to rockbottom and allowing her to move on from her past of sexual abuse. Kat and Alfie are back together, but they're a different Kalfie - maturer, wiser and progressive.

-------

INTERVIEW ON 2013
BBC: What plans do you have for Kat and Alfie? Do you think they should be together?

LORRAINE NEWMAN: Kat needs a little bit of time to find herself again. I personally think that she’s become quite damaged and somewhat lost over the past few years. The cycle that she and Alfie got into became quite painful to watch. We adore Alfie and should be allowed to enjoy that but, more importantly, I think Kat should be allowed to move on too from her history of sexual abuse.

So, over the next 12 months, we’ll take Kat on a journey where she’s forced to confront her demons and hopefully come out the other side a stronger person. Her past will always remain with her but I hope that it stops her from continually making the same tortuous mistakes and allows her to find some happiness and peace for herself.
