Because of the high price of the Sony wifi dongle I have connected my Bravia (KDL 40EX720) to my home network by a much cheaper Netgear wifi bridge connected to the TV's Ethernet port. The TV therefore thinks it's connected by cable rather than wifi. The whole set-up works really well.

Now I would like to be able to mirror my PCs' screens to the TV and I understand that I could use the Sony "Wifi Direct" feature which is on this TV to do that (yes, I know there are other options, such as the Google Chromecast dongle, but in principle my TV already offers the capability and I'd prefer to use that if I can).

But when I look for Wifi Direct in the menu, I don't find it (it should be available from Home/Applications I believe). I assume that is because the TV considers that no wifi connection exists. Can anyone please confirm that this is the reason?

It seems that the TV will not consider itself to be wifi connected unless the Sony dongle is used. But could there be a work-around? Can anyone tell me please?
