Ok so I bought my first android and wondered as im not tech is there anything I should know?
Ive heard the androids can eat your credit away if you dont disable automatic dls. Is this true? |

Shouldn't do - just make sure you've gone into Play Store settings and have set Auto-Update Apps to "Wi-Fi only"

By credit do you mean data allowance or do you mean in app purchases?

most modern phones will use data in the background. unless you turn it off.
if you are on PAYG you need to ensure you have a data tariff or turn of cell data. |

This is easy to do by swiping down from the top of the screen and switching off the mobile data toggle. Edit: you'll still be able to browse and download over wifi both at home and using hotspots when out. |

Just turn off mobile data . Simple .
If you want to check your Facebook one day whilst out and about , just turn it on . Then turn if off again when you have finished . It can't use your credit if it's disabled |

You can stop your apps updating while you are out and about by going into the Play Store selecting Menu and select Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only or disable all updates.

Not sure how it works with PAYG, but if possible add some type of data tariff to it
I have had these where they charge £1 and it quickly adds up if you use any data (even a small amount) IMO, A smartphone needs data to get the full benefit |
