Do You Know Your - 'PLIE/' From Your 'RELEVE/' ? - Or Are You A Strictly Armchair Dancer ?

Do viewers of Strictly Come Dancing have to be the equivalent of a 'Computer Nerd' in the knowledge of Ballroom dancing to be able to fully enjoy the show or is a good measure of casual relaxed common sense and reason from your armchair on a Saturday night an equally good qualification ?

As we know the Plie/ and Releve/ are moves more commonly associated with ballet but many Strictly ballroom dancers use these moves in warm up routines.

Is the mind numbingly boring pursuit of dancing perfection the be all and end all on Strictly Come Dancing, or is the celebrity Strictly journey and just participation on the show more interesting to watch for you ?

Which are you Terry? When you are not sharpening your headline writing skills do you dance?

I think its fair to say that we all like to dance a Tango if we get lucky.

Personally I have started to practice my Plie/ and hold the pose in the smallest room in the house, I much prefer the fun of a move like that than just sitting there reading the sun.

I thought you were on about piles at first! No I don't really know the dance steps. The only move I remember from my ballroom dancing days was "kick pull chain". When they start going on about oversway reverse turn it does sound a bit like gobbledegook but I don't think it matters as long as it looks right?

Having read Terry's second post on this thread I am not so sure he wasn't.

It is the shouting headlines that bug me. So not having the correct accents & hyphens on words such as pli·é would make them very difficult for most to understand.

No lol I don't suffer from the 'Nuremberg Trials' thank goodness.

The majority of Strictly's viewers like us Stef are probably blissfully unaware of the gobbledegook too, it makes the whole show much more enjoyable to watch not having to worry about the boring miniscule details the whole time as you say if it looks right then that's all that really matters.

I'm sorry that you don't know what a "Plie/ and Releve/" is Olive, this ' 86 Pointe/ Plie/ Releve/ ' video will help you as it did me.

This is a trusted Terry link and as a bonus there is also some delightful piano accompaniment.

You do realise that using text speak (as you have done in your thread title) is against forum rules, don't you Terry?

I tried to find the Nike tick for the 'e' but I couldn't see it on my keyboard, can you let me know where it is please?

Do you prefer the Strictly journey Monaogg, or are you one for the detail on the show ?

As child I had a lot of ballet lessons, and even once won an Easter egg for a traditional waltz

Then as a young adult I did contemporary ballet - which was quite dangerous.

Also I learnt a bit of ice dance, which was also quite scarey..

I use to disco in clubs and also had lessons.

I know when a dance is good and when it's bad - but I'm not up on all the technical terms.

I'll tell you if you promise to stop using random capitals in thread titles. Deal?

Alt + 130 on your key pad.
Here you go

Even easier is to find the word in an on-line dictionary & copy & paste. Or on a Mac, alt & whatever letter you need. √

If you had put the accents and hyphens in the correct place it would have been crystal clear

Doing pliés in the smallest room in the house?

Can't you on some machines also hold down the keys to get alternative letters.

As I said Elan a plie and hold is a good alternative to the traditional squat.

I still can't find the key for the Nike tick for the 'e' I'm afraid.

Terry you must be the only person in the world who thinks ballet positions when going to the loo and I thought I was strange!

When we went to Pasha's tour they got the audience involved by doing a little routine. I would love it if they did that and you could show off your plies and I could do my kick pull the chain.

Who said anything about thinking, I'm more of a doer.

Going to Pasha's tour must of been a lovely experience for you Stef, there is no denying that he has got a certain way with him, and to get involved with a little routine must of been so exciting, did you know that was going to happen ?

I would love to show off my plies

Alright you do ballet positions when on your throne lol!

It was great although horrendous getting there. I embarrassed my hub by posing a rude question but that's just me.

Oh just a simple routine everybody stood up and did. Some lucky folk got onto the stage with Pasha and actually danced with him! Oh yes Pasha was utterly charming and smelt so nice too!

Go on then show us your piles I meant plies.

No one said 'On' I said plie and hold lol

I hope the question wasn't to rude Stef, you are naughty.

How do you know how good Pasha smelt if you didn't get up on stage with him, is there something you are not telling lol ?

Lol

Well it made Katya laugh and my hub go (to do with underwear the male dancers wear)

After the show quite a few people queued up to get their programmes signed and have photos taken with. He gave me a big hug and smelt wonderful.
