Does GB find it harder to relate to black acts?
I don't want to make another 'race' thread but I've noticed for the past couple of weeks that whenever the X Factor page on Facebook posts pictures of the acts after they've performed, the top comments on the white acts are always saying how they're a winner or a finalist for sure and how good they are (Sam B, Luke, Nicholas,) but when they post pics of the black acts (Tamera, Hannah, Rough Copy) there's ALWAYS top rated comments saying 'oh they are flat' or 'they suck, they shouldn't be here instead of ______' and then the odd comment saying 'they were quite good, nothing special'.
I fully expect most responses to this thread saying 'no', but the majority of users on here are probably white and refuse to believe that there is sub-conscious racism amongst us all (whether we know it or we don't) when, if you think about it, it's definitely possible. |

My fave was Hannah who unfortunately went last week. (I'm white btw) |

I wouldn't necessary call it a race issue, more of a class issue. Some of the dumb comments left here after Hannah's urban slang outburst, slating her because she doesn't sound like a waffly **** come to mind...
There's definitely an issue older (or out of touch) white people will have with urban acts. |

I don't think so. Statistically, the only group of people the audience seem to find hard to relate to is white women.

No, the public finds it hard to relate to poor or weak acts.

I think it's harder to relate to the more 'urban black acts' than the nicely middle of the road ones.

Given that Alexandra took weeks to build a fanbase, when Diana and Eoghan had a strong fanbase from the very first week, I think I can. |

Look at the final two in 2008 to find your answer.

I don't think the show has a clue what to do with urban/r&b/soul acts and they end up getting so watered down that they lose what they're actually about.
It does seem, in general, the GBP tends to prefer quite bland acts in tv talent shows |

I think the Alexandra and JLS final pretty much says it all here...

The way Rough Copy behave is why I find it hard to relate to them.
No such problems with Alexandra, Leona or JLS. |

Again, I really hope nobody takes offense to this thread, I just think that there must be something something sub-conscious and was wondering if anyone else had noticed/suspected this or just me.

I'd say it's more to do with the genre, R&B, urban. Rock and pop are the most favoured genres in the UK.

Actually, you've made me think of a good point. Perhaps it's the way different black acts behave? Alexandra and JLS behaved calmly and seemed very soft-spoken, whereas Hannah and Rough Copy behaved in a more ghetto, outgoing way. But then some people could argue Stacey Solomon acted in a similar way to Hannah, so it's quite a complex debate really. I do love a good debate though

I do not think this is true, it just so happens that rough copy are weak vocalists and they happen to be black, and tamera was the only act to forget her words and she just happens to be black. I am not sure what happened with hannah, it could be underlying racism or it could be that she is not a typical skinny popstar and she cried a lot early on. I am not sure if the hatred of her using slang terms is because she is black, I think people hate slang in general, people hated tulisa for the same thing did they not? And cher lloyd.
