I may well be completely wrong, but didn't Ken write some bodice rippers a while ago?

And just what is it with this "Hard Grinding" book anyway? One minute it's a period epic a la Bronte sisters, with mentions of mangles and diptheria. Then we had the whole Norris censoring Emily's copy of the book cos there was a part where a wages clerk is robbed and shot! Now, I'm no expert on the genre, but that sounds a little ahead of its time to me!

Hand-guns were first invented in the 15th Century, highway-men shot people all the time.

Well it's obvious really - it's set in modern times but the heroine was reincarnated and keeps having flashbacks to her previous life. Honestly - have any of you people actually read the damn thing ......

That's as maybe, but a WAGES CLERK and I believe SHOTGUN were mentioned which are distinctly more modern! It seemed like they couldn't quite decide what the book was about between the different script writers.
Also in last night's episode, bizarrely either Blanche or Lena said Norris was telling them all to shush because he hadn't read the book yet when it's supposed to have been his choice. Granted, it could have been a flippant remark, but seemed inconsistent.

Jeezy creezy. Does it matter?!

I mean, all the book comments are just to show that the books really lame, so it would make sense that it was historically inaccurate.

No?

I seem to remember something along these lines. I wonder if that's the twist and that's why Ken hates the book so much but is so familiar with it - he wrote the book?

Would be fun. I wonder if his monthly royalties will suddenly go up from threpence ha'penny to sixpence?

That's the kind of thing I was thinking of, but I wasn't sure if I'd remembered properly I would imagine it'll all come out in a couple of episodes if it's true...

In the eppy when it was first mentioned & he started the book group, he was only half way through it - he said he was desperate to find out what happened. You would have thought he would have finished it by now though, but maybe he's 'saving' it as he can't bear to finish it

It was referred to as a period peice set in the 1930s around Wetherfield.

So, wages clerk, shot guns etc all very, very possible.

Ah, I never caught that part, thanks for filling us in! The whole disease and backwards lifestyle would pretty much have fitted into Weatherfield life even in the 1960's though!

I'd love it if Ken turned out to be the author!
