I'm trying to resolve some recording issues with my 9300 - skips and the like. These sound like common complaints which Humax does not seem to be interested in supporting. I've read a fair few threads on similiar problems though I haven't seen anything recently.

TBH its a few years old so I expect to be giving it a little TLC by this point anyhoo.

The first step was to format the HD and reset to factory defaults which I have now done. The next thing I wanted to do was to ensure the software on the box was up to date.

1.00.26 is the latest version. Can you describe your skips? Does it affect all recordings or only recordings of particular series?

Intermittently for at least a year I have had skipping video and audio at specific points in recordings. Not often though.

Not noticed it within series records, though I recorded GHOST (Piers Brosnan and Ewan McGregor both failing to do English accents!) in the last few days; the first recording skipped horribly at one point. I abandoned viewing and recorded the repeat the next night, to have it skip in almost exactly the same place.

I reformatted, (though did not reboot) the box prior to the second recording. It has now been reset to factory defaults.

I've seen comments and instructions on aborting automatic searching and setting up channels manually. Seems this might be the next likely step? The other thing I was considering was replacing the HDD though I have no experience with PVR's, only desktops. I understand it may be a shocking experience?!

Recordings that intermittently skip is a known problem with the 9150/9300 and was first seen on Family Guy and American Dad on BBC3. It is now seen on other programmes and I think is confined to the BBC but I could be wrong on that. Humax and the BBC are well aware of the problem but can't / won't do anything about it. I doubt replacing the hard disk will make any difference but let us know if it does.

The Manual Search instructions that you allude to will not improve the skipping problem but will improve reliability of recording if you are currently receiving from more than one transmitter. Go here to view my instructions.
