Just got a message on mine and the mrs iphone about new carrier settings.

Anyone else get the message? What exactly do these settings do? I'm guessing it's all behind the scenes stuff and we won't notice any difference what so ever?

I also just got this update on my iPhone 5. I have no connection to the trial either so is this the start if the rollout? I'm in Wolverhampton.

I had to go into Settings > General > About and wait for a few seconds for it to appear.

I now have 4G in my options ( Still on 3G signal though)

15.6 = 4G enabled.

Whether you can actually access 4G in an enabled area is another question. Like i've said before, i've had a 4G enabled phone since i bought it but i can't access 4G on Three due to the fact that my SIM won't allow it because only those on the trial can have their SIM register on the network at the moment.

Yeah I've now got a toggle "enable 4G now" and it's on by default. Awesome.

Obviously we haven't got it 4G yet, but it's ready and waiting right?

Brilliant stuff yeah. So does this only go out to people in 4G area/with a 4G phone, or does anyone get it regardless of phone/location?

I've also had the carrier update, with the 'Enable 4G' switch, shame I don't live in a 4G area.

Maybe just for folk who have 4G phones, I guess location wouldn't have anything to do with it. At least it's ready for if you go into a 4G area

No on Android it will be sim updates I expect could be software though.

SIM updates - yes, mandatory.

Software updates - optional, will improve performance/compatibility but not required on most phones.

Does anyone know if these are ever done automatically on the iPhone?

The only time I've ever been able to get carrier updates is by going to General > Settings > About, and then it offers it to me.

Mine has checked on a reboot once as I got presented with a prompt to update. However, I haven't seen it check automatically during normal usage.

Are sim updates over the air or is it a replacement card? My Lumia 920 is still showing "fastest connection allowed 3G"

My 4S got the update too, obviously (unless there are other changes that aren't related to LTE) it's not going to make any difference.

Well on mine and my mrs iphone 5, all i did was unlock the phone and then when the home screen came on the message popped up without me even going into settings and checking for it, and it didnt even reboot, the signal went off and was searching for a few seconds then it came back on, same on both our phones

Is that likely to be anytime soon?
My Galaxy S4 only allows me to select GSM (2G) or WCDMA (3G) at the moment.

Depends what you count as "soon". 3 seem to count within the next 4 months as "soon".

I got an update on my HTC One, now allowing me to select LTE.

However, there is no 4G coverage from 3 in my area as of yet...

Interesting suppose it shows that they are being through and quick in delivering software updates to various devices. Imagine most people will just be waiting on the sim authorisations by end of month.

My Galaxy S4 has LTE / WCDMA / GSM (autoconnect).

Even though my house is apparently in a 4G area, I haven't managed to get 4G yet - but I haven't had a sim update either.

As I mentioned on another thread, I scanned the available networks and 3 (4G) came up as an option. I selected it and it said my phone was registering on it. I don't know if that made a difference, as I got the 4.3 update through the other day and that may have been included on it.

So as far as I'm aware, my phone (which is Three branded) is all ready to go, and I'm just waiting for the network to do their stuff.
