Not exactly the most mainstream of composers but to his fans nothing else comes close.
It's 20 years ago today since we lost the great Frank Zappa. Anyone else on here into Zappa's music? |

I'm a huge Frank Zappa fan. I was introduced to his music shortly before his death (the same friend also introduced me to Hawkwind and Ozric Tentacles).
Such a unique and incredible talent. An amazing composer, musician, songwriter and more. A genius. |

I'm a fan too! Does anyone else like Arthur Brown? I might make a thread for him too.

I'm only familiar with some of his material -I have 'Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch' and 'Jazz From Hell', both on vinyl. Anyone care to recommend other albums by him?

Depends what you like, the two you have are in many ways fairly un-typical of the bulk of his oputput. Many people just can't deal with the odd sounds on Jazz From Hell, but it contains one of his best recorded guitar solos ever IMO, in 'St Etienne'.
If you like the guitar solo stuff then have a go at the 'Shut up & Play Yer Guitar' set, or 'Guitar'. The Drowning Witch album for me is one great side of music with some filler on the other side. The title track is an incredible piece of music but Valley Girl does little for me. See if you can get hold of 'One Size Fits All' and 'Hot Rats'. They're earlier stuff but reckoned by fans to be among his best. Personally I quite like 'Tinselltown Rebellion' as an easy introduction to FZ, but if you've already subjected yourself to 'Jazz From Hell' you may be beyond help already....
