A full feature smartphone, plus a second e-ink screen on the back. As well as being able to use it as an e-book, the second screen is used for notifications (a lot more informative than a flashing LED!), clock, or to keep things that you might need displayed for several minutes (a map, a boarding pass, etc).

I'm not sure this is my next phone, but it is an interesting idea that I'd like to see on more devices.

How would you use the second screen?

e-Reader for sure, especially with a big screen phone I tend to gravitate to ATM. But would it make the phone more prone to damage? Scratched back is okay, cracked screen is not.

I heard there was another phone company looking into this a couple of years back for the same sort of thing (notifications etc).

Can't remember who it was though and it even might have been the same company.

It got released in France, Spain, Germany etc but with no carrier take up here, it is to go on sale online here next year. (priced at about the same as the 5c)

Close to the weight of the 5c and the G and a middling 720p screen, it is the very useful rear e-ink screen that makes it high end.

********(I will try to get my 'New High End' thread deleted. Interestingly the same thought process from the OP here.)

Maybe Yota was that 'one vendor'. YotaPhone got a mention in 2012 too.

Unless unlimited mobile data gets significantly cheaper, I'd like phones to start packing a DAB+ tuner soon. My DAB radio is the only other gadget I need to carry around with me now that the phone does most other things.

Heh?

UK mobile data is one of the cheapest in the world. I use tune-in daily via my mobile network.

He said unlimited mobile data.

Only one and a half networks actually offers "unlimited" data at a fixed price.

The Yota website says they have an app that loads the latest news headlines on the e-ink screen when the alarm goes off. Nice! Like having your paper delivered to your bed side

Phones with USB ports and decent office applications would be the ultimate PC killer. I think that's the next big thing.

Three sell unlimited data for £15 a month how cheap do you want it? Do you want them to pay you to use it???

Office apps are usually free. Only businesses are willing to pay. Yet a big part of the PC is legacy as far as many consumers are concerned.

And printers are still much joke. Seems obvious to me they need bluetooth with PDF send/printing becoming the standard way to print.
This is maybe how it always should have been for home use. Wide incompatibility tied them all in to Microsoft.
