Panasonic SA-BT230 & ceiling speakers

Hello forum,

I have a Panasonic Blu-ray SA-BT230. I am very happy with picture and sound, even though it's a few years old now.

My issue is that we're building our own house and I'd like to take it with me. Problem is Mrs is no way having square black speakers on her walls like we have in present house, so I'm looking to replace 2 front and 2 surround with 4 ceiling speakers.

I can't find what the wattage is for them though, each of the speakers has "impedence 3 ohms" on their labels. What sort of wattage should I need to replace them (I've been on Panasonic site but no luck).

Thanks a lot in advance,

Mike.

Change the wife!

I doubt ceiling speakers would be an upgrade or even match the sound you currently get. Also the fronts really need to be at ear level either side of the telly to fix the soundstage in front of you where the visual action is. You won't get that with ceiling speakers, unless you mount them in the wall.

Anyway. The manual has the specs. If you've filed yours in the recycling bin you can download it from here.

Mind you it is a complete work of fiction if the figures are correct. It claims to produce 1000W out of the speakers but only consume 100W from the mains. Which unless it contains it's own power station breaks some pretty fundamental laws of physics.

It is claimed the fronts and surrounds are 125W but I would be surprised if it ever got anywhere close to that in reality.

Maybe changing the speakers for something in white might placate the wife and let you use proper speakers properly located?

Thanks chrisjr,

I think you're right. It may have to be white speakers.

Cheers

It depends how much you want to spend etc etc, but bear these sorts of things in mind too (on-wall and in-wall main speakers)
