And it's a game changer.

Warning: probably not safe for work! Flesh and profanity etc.

Lana has more talent in her little finger than Gaga has

OMG! Not that I want to diss Gaga, but to go with the comments above I would have to say this is the REAL artpop!

What can you say, but wow! Its just bloody incredible and well worth the wait.

As well as being effectively 3 incredible pop videos in one for Body Electric, Gods and Monsters & Bel Air, its just the most wonderful video painting of all Lana's pop culture obsessions. We'd seen in the trailers the mix of religion; Jesus, Mary, Garden of Eden, humour; in the presence of Elvis, Marilyn & John Wayne and darkness & social decay of the modern world; in terms of gangsters, pervy rich guys & strippers. Frankly you wondered how the flipping hell is she gonna pull all that off in one short film, but my word she certainly did.

Oh and poetry; lots of poetry too, all Lana's fave poems. I was expecting Walt Whitman's I sing the Body Electric, but we also have Allen Ginsberg's Howl and ooo more as well.

And at the end when Bel Air plays and they fly, its just frickin' beautiful. Quite literally an uplifting end. What a way to end the year. One of the best pop videos ever made, but then aren't all Lana's videos contenders for that award?! Visually it was a feast, pure cinematic brilliance. Wonderful photography and dazzling, mind blowing memorable images from start to finish. Full credit to everybody involved for daring to push the boundaries of what is possible in a pop video in 2013.

And most of all thank-you Lana Del Rey. It was indeed beautiful. Makes you feel all .> at once!

No denying it, that was stunning. Way above anything any of these other pop singers could put out there.

As a photographer the visuals were extremely rewarding.

She is incredible. I don't even think we have seen Lana at her best yet either. She is a genuine and real talent. I think the next album will make her one of the biggest artists in the world.

Tropico is stunning from start to finish and as said. This is art and music.

I think Gaga does it better personally via imagery but Lana does actual sequences just as good

Putting music aside, Lana is a far more accomplished actress than Gaga (in fact than all the pop girls) so her videos seem more believable in that dept. I've been saying it for ages on here, she'll go on to blur the lines between music, movies and fashion. She is a special talent.

Lana is indeed some actress. Playing both Eve and Mary in the video she still makes them appear like totally different characters. Something I really loved with Tropico is how shots of Mary turn up at key stages to emphasize Eve's actions. Just love the expressions and poses she pulls. As she wrote it as well, you know she's thought all this through meticulously.

And that shows another Lana difference between her and the rest: She just loads these videos with meaning, symbolism & artistic references. It got compared to Dante’s Inferno on the thread about Lana’s new album, I would say it’s actually “Lana’s Inferno.” I fully compliment Gaga for what she puts into her videos; she comes out with some pretty extraordinary imagery. But Lana does the extraordinary AND loads it with meaning. You could write a 4000 word essay taking it to pieces and still not even capture everything she’s put in there. I've watched it a few times now and I keep seeing new things. I don't think there has ever been anything quite like it.

And god I love those impersonators of Elvis, Marilyn & John Wayne, they do some good work coming out with trademarks of their characters. Nice touch finishing with Elvis crooning a few bars of You Are Always On My Mind at the end too.

Good interview with the director Anthony Mandler. Apparently when the rich guys got held up at gun point they weren't aware that was going to happen and you are seeing real shock on their faces!:

It's all so accomplished... yes I agree. However I think that is the reason that despite loving what she does I can only find myself liking Lana as opposed to loving her.

The greatest art has that smattering of spontaneity. The whole Lana thing just seems overworked to make sure she looks great, she sounds great but just missing that little bit of human spontaneity to engage with.
