Sony Bravia USB record

Just wondering if anyone is able to help me with this.

Basically I'd like to view programs I've recorded on my Bravia via USB HDD on my laptop/phone. Simply plugging the usb into my laptop instantly asks me to format the USB.

However if I use linux I'm able to see the files and copy them to another USB, problem is I'm still unable to play the files.

It appears the TV has partitioned the USB into 6 parts, 3 of 6mb that contain nothing, 2 of 103mb that contain files that have the program info stored in them and one of 30gb that has a folder called stream and where it appears the actual videos are.

The first recorded program is called 01000001.00 and also has a file called 01000001.tlt, the second is called 01000002.00 and so on.

I've tried playing the files with Media Player Class/VLC and opening in various editing software but nothing I've tried works. I realise this is obviously the way Sony wanted it but is there any way I could possibly get these files to play on something other than the TV itself?

Appreciate any help.

I'm afraid you can't, it's not only encrypted it's also locked to the exact model and serial number that it was recorded on - you can't even play it back on an identical set.

As far as I'm aware it's something the copyright holders required?.

Yeah I thought that would be the answer. Its a little disappointing as it would of been a useful option to have at some point I'm sure.

Anyway onto my next problem.

The TV in question is THIS one. Although I read reviews before buying the TV that said the sound quality was really quite bad I thought surely they couldn't be that bad, well they are.

The only audio outputs are via the headphone socket and optical and to top things off I don't have a spare socket to plug any speakers into or a stereo to plug anything into to. Oh and I can't use USB speakers because I have the flash drive in there for recording.

So with no power source anywhere am I forever stuck with the speakers inside the TV?

Why not get a multiway mains adapter if you have run out of sockets. Don't get one of those horrid cube types but you can get types like this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plugin-Mains...dp/B001FTN30O/

that plug into a wall socket and give you four (in this case switched) outlets.

Then just plug a pair of powered speakers or a sound bar into that.

Yeah sorry, I should of mentioned I already have a four way adapter that the TV plugs into, the other three sockets are also in full use.

It's to reduce piracy, which presumably is what you're wanting to do

Why would you imagine USB speakers would work?, they obviously wouldn't.

Use the headphone socket, on most Sony's it's configurable as either headphones or line out, with the level adjustable or not as required.

But sound is poor on all modern LCD/Plasma sets, and small ones tend to be even worse as they have even less room for speakers.
