Sorry to start a thread about this family.

I wanted to know -
Do any of you think ANYTHING could be done to make this family prove a hit?

I personally like them now they get less screen time and are more toned down with this benefit fraud storyline but a lot of people still appear to dislike them.

What would you do to make them more likeable - without giving them the boot from Enders lol?

Personally, I find them a rather contrived effort all round, apart from Mickey that is.

It is very hard to like a family that are just deadbeat.

I'm sure that there are families all around the country that can identify with them, but from an entertainment point of view I really dread them involved in a storyline.

I don't think that anything is going to make them more likeable, it would require a complete personality re-vamp, which in turn would not be realistic.

With a bit of luck they might bite the dust, now a new regime is in charge of EE.

Can't you think of anything they could do to change the characters slowly over time? Maybe through an event that occurs in their lives?

Not realistically.

The adults are by nature scroungers off the state and the kids think petty thieving is a way to get by.

I can't see any storyline no matter how slowly developed, could radically make any difference.

Make Darren and Demi proper chavs. Give her an orange fake tan, platinum blonde hair extentions, a wonderbra and low cut top and a fake Burberry handbag.
Get Darren in a Kappa trackie and Von Dutch cap. Then get Demi and older bf with a Nova with blacked out windows and huge bass speakers playing Babycakes at full blast.

That'll do for starters.

I didn't and still don't!

i don't know, everyone hated the Slaters when they first arrived and wanted them out, but they've had amazing storylines. OK so i still hate them, but you can't like everybody. This forum would close down if there was nothing to moan about!

The Slaters were OTT as well but then they had some strong plots albeit a few too many.

As often happens, they are all still over-acting their little socks off as they try to make their mark on the square, but generally, the writers decide that they will have to tone the new characters down if they are ever going to fit into the square and things will get better. If you think of how most characters were when they first arrived, you'll see how much they've changed, almost into a different person in some cases!

To be fair they haven't ranted and raved for a while however there's another Pauline vs Rosie thing so that looks set to change.

They are a love 'em or hate 'em family. You can't like everyone in the show but I do like them. I think they're a breath of fresh air.
One of my favourite characters is Stacy Slater because any young person in London will tell you that they know a Stacy Slater. She's so amazingly real it's scary. it's like she walked straight into the TV.

Having given the matter much thought I think that the problem is unsolveable and so the only option is 'the boot'
