On Robin Thicke

“It’ll be like that guy who’s done "Gangnam Style" – we’ll never hear from him again,"
On Lady Gaga

“She’s another one,” he said. “She’s probably doing a s**t on top of a boiled egg right now. Somebody will f**king freeze it and call it art.”
On Miley Cyrus

“I think there’s a trend, unfortunately, in the game, at the minute, of girls desperately trying to be provocative or desperately trying to ‘start the debate’ about some old s**t or other,” he told the music magazine. “Because, really, they’re not very good. Do you know what I mean?”
Par for the course really

Noel Gallagher goes off on anyone who isn't Oasis or The Beatles.

I actually agree with him, especially on Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus. He's kinda right about the Gaga too. I like her music but some of her fans are annoying and they think everything she does is 'art'.

That all reads a lot better if you imagine it in a broad Manc accent. Plus it's all true.

His interviews are brilliant. Genuine wit with his insults. People take him way too seriously

Love Noel and always have done. The one band I'd love to reunite for some one off gigs is Oasis but I can't see it happening unfortunately

Noel Gallagher is great - as long as you don't have to hear his music.

He's not far off the mark on this occasion, though generally speaking he's an arrogant bellend.

He's right about Lady Gaga, but what he said about Robin Thicke is very stupid. The guy has been successful for like a decade already... Maybe fans of pure-pop music won't hear about him again, but he'll always have a large following.

No and it's remarkably silly to believe that's the only time he spouts off. People ask him questions and he answers them like he is talking to a mate in a pub. He's done it since he came into the limelight. It's not about getting publicity, it's simply him giving his actual opinion on things when questions are asked rather than being a media trained "I think everyone is great" bore.

He and others like him get called arrogant and 'controversial' () as people aren't used to celebrities speaking what's actually in their mind.

I never heard of him until Blurred Lines came out and was shoved in our faces everywhere. I don't think I missed out much either He strikes me as a bit of a sleazy character TBH.

I agree. I like Noel and he does make me laugh but he got that one wrong as Robin Thicke already has a long career behind him.

I wouldn't have expected someone like Noel to make such comments about Robin tbh. In rock music it's common for bands to not get mainstream success, but still have a large following and be quite well-known, so I would've expected him to realize that was the case with Robin Thicke before Blurred Lines.

Noel seems to pride himself on ignorance to an extent. Some of it is good copy and some is just inverse snobbery for the sake of it.

He also seems like he has a point to prove, which seems to have actually increased after Oasis rather than the opposite.

I dont understand why he is given column inches, he isnt relevant he is essentially an old man sat in his cardigan shouting at the telly thats its all noise. His opinion isnt valid anymore.

Maybe because people are interested in what he has to say. And his opinions are certainly not less valid than yours

He has been successful in the U.S. but not here. Now he's riding high on the success of a song about date rape. Great.
