I may be way off track but the negative trainers always seem to get on with people much better than positive trainers who seem more in tune with dogs than people.
Yes they are often big personalities that people buy into. I think true animal people are less good people-people. I know that all of us at work have better animal skills than people skills! Luckily we are all the same so understand each other better!

I second the book as a Christmas present idea. You can always suggest puppy training classes for her too as a way for the dog to learn social skills with other dogs.

Whilst I disagree with the boyfriend's mother's way of training a pup, this post is ridiculous.

By all means, the OP should try and find a way to broach the subject of more suitable training with the mother sensibly, maybe through the boyfriend, but social services...please!
I assumed that my post was so utterly and obviously ridiculous that nobody in their right mind could possibly take it seriously.

I was clearly wrong. I apologise for misleading you into believing that I was being serious.

Just to be absolutely clear - I do NOT advocate that anyone should contact social services.

Much as I hate using smileys, I will make sure that I use the winking smiley next time I post anything similar. Possibly more than one of them; just to be sure.

Yes, she probably does the same thing to children.

You should call the social services and report her - just in case.

I'm sure they'll take it seriously.
This is a bit far. She is a great mum, I will give her that, they never go without.

My first thought was that you weren't being serious, but the longer I thought about it I thought I'd better check...
