Decent Paso Music at last

Don't normally like Natalies style, however looking forward to her Paso tonight to El Gato Montes. Real Paso music at last!

So why have the producers given a Michael Jackson track to Kevin and Susanna for their AT?

There is actually an (instrumental) AT version of smooth criminal on youtube. By the way, Susanna also had traditional paso music.

Have you missed the rest of the series? Haha, so many people have had weird song choices this year.

I think this is the only one of Susanna's songs that has the potential to hit the 'erk' factor*; she's had a decently nice run of the song picks at least. And, meh, it may work out if they swithc it up like they did with Sweet Dreams

* I mean, Hound Dog for a CCC was a bit odd because it's a Jive song, but the mood is still right, and it was in a week designed to be bad, so meh.

Susanna's was a Spanish melody written by a Frenchman as an opera overture. Is that a traditional paso doble? The tune Natalie has been given is more in the competition paso doble style with highlights and flares in it than even Susanna's.

The nationality of the composer is hardly relevant, nor is the original usage of the piece.

Susanna's music has long been adopted as a favourite of professional dancers when dancing Paso Doble, though, because of the long intro, and (not always) incorrect phrasing, it tends to be used for demonstrations rather than competitions.

Spot on Kaycee, I love both pieces of music for Paso Doble. How great to have authentic music rather than awful pop tunes that have been played in the past.

'Authentic' probably being a better description than 'traditional'.

Exactly - everyone presumes the Paso is Spanish in origin when it is French - yes it is based loosely round the spanish bullfight but it did come out of France hence so many of the steps being in French

Sorry wasn't being critical I was sort of asking a question. ..and that's a good point about the paso originally being a French "cafe" dance. In the back of my tiny mind I think I'd heard that before.

I've been struggling to think of that word - thank you!

Whatever word we use to describe it, I think at the end of the day most of us seem to prefer music that seems to fit the dance instead of pop tunes used just for the sake of using 'em!

I love the Paso Doble, I can't wait to see it and the music is great too.

It was great to see the Paso Doble danced to an actual Paso Doble. There are many such pieces but you never get to hear them nowadays. The 'French piece' referred to is the 'Entry of the Toreadors' from the opera 'Carmen' by Bizet, an opera which is set in Spain.
I only wish they would have some authentic tangos - we haven't had one this season. I remember the original 'Come Dancing' series from years ago when ALL the music fitted the dance!
