However, if the vote on female Bishops is favourable tomorrow, Richard Curtis has hinted at a Vicar of Dibley special where Geraldine becomes a Bishop. Maybe Christmas 2015.

That would be brilliant! but it won't be the same without Roger Lloyd-Pack.
I think Mrs Browns boys is a cert for this year, maybe another 'still open all hours'

so with the new tony hall arts iniitiative, maybe quite a bit of festive opera and ballet ?
would make a nice alternative to the panto repeats on itv 2 .......

That's a good point. Owen was a crucial character, and with Emma Chambers in a sort of "non commited to acting anymore" style, perhaps it would be better to leave it well alone.

I think there are currently 2 excellent comedies on our screens whos respective formats would lend themselves excellently to Christmas Specials

The first, and I may have mentioned this before, is REV (around the true meaning of Christmas). The second is the quite brilliant 'Friday Night Dinners' (I'll let you guess the plot)

There has been a Christmas Special Friday Night Dinner.

Correct, it was on last year. The Rev xmas special was shown about 3 or 4 yrs ago. Both were excellent & probably the best christmas themed episodes from any sitcoms in recent years. Tom Hollander said after the Rev's 3rd series this year that it's unlikely to return in the near future and given the way the story ended it may never return.
Maybe Friday Night Dinners couldn't legitimately create another 'jewish family trying to celebrate Christmas' episode. Especially after it was done so well last year.
Both are unlikely but, hey, this is the Christmas TV thread - its just what I'd like for Christmas!

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-...-champion-2014 is using the 1960s early 1970's RT masthead - wonder if they are going to reuse it should there be a redesign

Just confirmed on the one show that there will be a Xmas special of Not Going Out which will potentially be the last ever episode.

It was filmed last week. Quite enjoyed last years Xmas special

So, so far the BBC1 Christmas comedy cupboard consists of Mrs. Brown's Boys and Not Going out.

I did wonder if the Monty python Concert being shown on GOLD this Wednesday, will get a BBC1 late night Christmas night showing?

Perhaps:

10.00pm Mrs. Brown's Boys
10.30 BBC News
10.40 Monty Python Live

That would make a terrific comedy show for Xmas.

Well done BENFRANKLIN & DIGIBLADE, I stand corrected. Two episodes that have disappeared into the ether of my ever confused mind. Still, I'd gladly swap watching these 2 repeats, than new episodes of the tired Mrs Browns Boys and the failure that was last year’s Open All Hours

I wouldn't say that Still Open All Hours was a failure, I found it quite amusing

MARKED is a one-off SKYARTS Playhouse Presents - Drama:- featuring (Kiefer Sutherland) as a hitman who has a rundown Santa (Stephen Fry) in his sights. http://www.sky.com/tv/show/playhouse...article/marked

NB I do believe this is my first ever exclusice, which I'm rather chuffed about

I think Sutherland might be better suited to the Santa, these days!

Miranda Hart will tell Alan Carr tonight that she has started to write new episodes of her sitcom and a couple of specials - one of which will be filmed for Christmas - Christmas night?

That Playhouse sounds like it could be pretty good fun.

Sitting here, on the Algarave, in the heat, and Christmas seems as far away as it can be!

Great News! Mrs Browns Boys paired with Miranda would go down a storm!

18:00 Doctor Who
19:00 EastEnders
19:30 Strictly Come Dancing (Bruce will be back!)
21:00 EastEnders
21:30 Miranda
22:00 Mrs Browns Boys

A great line up!

Although I can't see the BBC ditching Call The Midwife from Christmas Day. I thought Strictly worked very well in the 5pm slot last year as the anchor to start Christmas night and capture the post-Toy Story audience. 5pm is too early for Doctor Who, and maybe also for CTM (although I wouldn't mind it going that early).

17:00 Call The Midwife / Strictly Come Dancing
18:15 Doctor Who
19:15 EastEnders
19:45 Strictly Come Dancing / Call The Midwife
21:00 EastEnders
21:30 Miranda
22:00 Mrs Brown's Boys

Either way they need to split EE again - it rates much better as two separate episodes compared to an hour long.

Presumably this will air on BBC One like Shrek The Halls and the Madagascar specials did.
