Those big hook up rumours and the phone call (I can't listen to it somehow, but I have already heard about it) date back from the UAN tour I think, and I wouldn't be surprised if they had been true at the time because the boys were 17 & just starting out both as pop stars and as sexual active people...
However, I think that the fans sharing any sort of info of the sort (whether true or false) on social media has put a damper on those things fairly early on tbh... And that's logical: who would want to have their private lives aired like that? The boys are not "disney" & have never pretended to be perfect role models when it comes to this, but I don't think that they want to see their private lives aired in pics and stories on the internet or in the newspapers, and I don't blame them to try to keep that on the down low.
We haven't had any of those things come out in the previous year because I am pretty sure that, while the ones still single haven't become nuns, they must have changed targets (I don't believe that fans are getting sneaked up anymore). Considering the number of paps and fans following the boys around, they can barely keep anything private, we'd have heard about it and seen pics by now IMO.
I agree that Louis is put under a lot of pressure from the fans (especially since the Larry shippers are scrutinizing to find a proof!), I hope that he can someday go back to his former lighthearted-ness, but maybe he has also just grown up.
Zayn needs space, but he hardly gets as much attention and harrassment from the fans though... his issue is different though, racism from non-fans mostly, so that must not be easy either.
I find you a bit unfair towards Harry tbh: it seems that since he seems to handle everything so well, you disregard the fact that he has a lot to deal with. He might downplay it, but he has let it slip a couple of times that he doesn't enjoy the labels he is stuck with, but he always seems to put things into perspective and remains gracious which is admirable to me. Nobody has been specifically made for this, & I am sure he worked hard to reach the level of detachment he has reached (he seemed to have been quite sensitive to criticisms after their 1st performance of WMYB and his screw up, so he used to care a lot about what people said).
I personally love the way Harry takes control in those interviews you mention and doesn't let the media corner him. I suppose to each their own, but it doesn't make me cringe, it makes me smile.
I am not as sure as you that it's PR training: I think he's always been able to charm people, it's what everyone seems to be saying. Charming people involves being able to say the right thing at the right time & leading the interaction usually.
The boys are all (highly probably) sexually active, I agree with you. I suppose it's just that I find it normal & expected at their age, and I feel that it's certainly not something that they have to share with the press or the fans.

And Harry needs to stop all those fake 'we don't objectify women' and 'I'm a personality kinda guy' kind of answers - it gives me secondhand embarrassment
