In the link that MTUK1 posted, you can see the top 10 downloaded and streamed songs of 2014 so far. The top 4 are identical, but streaming tends to benefit older songs like Pompeii or Counting Stars. So Story Of My Life could benefit
And if VEVO streams on youtube count towards the charts, One Direction will definitely benefit once they release the next single, which is usually on air/on sale. So they could make up for the lack of pre-orders that songs can accumulate which have been played on radio for weeks before being released.

I wish they included Google All Access. I subscribe to that.

In other news that we probably didn't report either: "Our Moment" won for Celebrity Fragrance at the Fragrance Foundation Awards!

Louis' crowdfunding is doing better than I thought: £55,656 in those couple of days. I still think that the goal (£1.500.000) is too high to reach though!

Have you seen this sentence "This project will only be funded if at least £2,000,000 is pledged by 2:46PM on Thursday 17th July, 2014. " http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/trust ??
What does it mean for the project if they don't reach the goal then?

You missed an extra 5 in the total lol. Like you I wonder what happens. Someone has deep pockets. Theyve sold one of the £12k boxes to meet Louis for 10 mins before the game.

No I removed the extra 5 on purpose since it was donated by Louis & his partner (from what I understood)

Good for whoever can afford that (though a £12k meet & greet remains very expensive IMO), I hope that the meeting will be unforgettable.

I suppose that with this image right thing, Louis can't get any of the other boys to help out (unlike Niall did with the charity football game).

Oh I see lol. I did kind of wonder as the things sold so far didn't add up to half a mill. The person who bought that £12k box was probably a rich millionaire eager to please their kids. So 55k isn't that much then. I thought he'd of got more. Doncaster isn't really the easiest place to get to if you're in the south of England. Maybe he misjudged the interest?

Pharrell Williams open to singing on a One Direction song
http://www.pressparty.com/pg/newsdes...296/?isworld=y
But untill someone actually collaborates with them, those are just words... Nothing has happened for 3 albums, and it's not as if collabs aren't the current thing!
Though I agree with Pharell & have always thought that adding another male voice to a 5 male voices ensemble might not be that beneficial. I still think a girl's voice might be better.

Ed Sheeran: 'Music industry politics stopped me from working on One Direction's last record'
http://www.pressparty.com/pg/newsdes...n/view/111306/
I get the feeling we'll never know what really went down with MM, this is a rather vague statement:
Quote:
“"I got called into Simon Cowell's room at Britain's Got Talent. There was some sort of political thing on the last record as to why I didn't get asked and he was explaining that. He basically just said, 'We need some songs', so I'm seeing him next week."”

And here I thought that the boys had started working early on the next album and seemed relatively happy with the results, so what's with Simon sudden request to Ed? Maybe he isn't confident that what he has heard is enough for the next album... Or maybe he wants as much choice as possible. I didn't think that Simon was that involved anymore in the boys' albums making process (he seems rather busy), so I am a bit surprised.
But the boys' next album is important, the aim is to touch people outside the fanbase -since it might be shrinking.

And apparently Alex & Sierra won't be using the song harry wrote with John Legend
https://twitter.com/The1DScoop/statu...602752/photo/1
If it's really good, let's hope someone else will... I was curious since they seemed to like it so much.

Believe it or not, it wasn't invented for them since Taylor Swift won celebrity fragrance last year
The other categories were for non-celeb fragrances anyway from what I read on their website (I was wondering like you if it was a real award, so I went to their website).
But yeah: there seems to be an award for everything!

I think we should invent awards in which only they can win to push the concept to its limits: Best UAN/TMH/WWA tour date, Best 1D merchandise, even most overpriced 1D Merch

So 1D are working on their merchandise, presumably to coincide with the next more 'mature' album.

Niall tweeted to today that they are bringing out a line of ....................... 1D makeup!!!!!

Nice to see they are taking the more mature concept seriously, bright coloured make up is bound to attract the more mature audience. So now we can can have bright makeup while wearing our new perfume .......

I wonder if it will have the baby pics from 3/4 years ago like most of the other stuff.

I bet Zayn is excited!

I still can't find the only merchandise I do like from the tour, the grey women's scarf with the song titles in black

Out of interest, what merchandise do people like or would like them to bring out?

Calendars are always good. I would also like one of those full sized stand up cutouts of Harry to put in my downstairs loo, preferably from the new picture range. Will give visitors a shock No disrespect to Harry going in the loo, it's just the place I feel I can be a bit crazy with the decor!

They were also in the studio from what I read... So hopefully they also worked on the main product: music

I think the reason why I am not that bothered about the merch is because the boys sell music as well as merch, unlike quite a few current teen figures who seem to almost solely survive on the merch sales.

Many pop acts have a make-up range, the boys have already had a little bit actually if I remember rightly...
Or should only female singers & groups be selling this type of merchandise? It doesn't seem to bother people when The girls release this sort of products... But I think it makes sense for the 1D boys too since most of their fans are girls, releasing stuff for boys would make little sense (sorry boys from the AT!).
And I thought that bright coloured nail polish is on trend, I've seen plenty of it in serious adult beauty stores...

I suppose some more mature merchandise would be welcome, so I hope that they'll use some of the nice pics from the concerts to update their T shirts or mugs collection or something... But the truth is I am still pretty unlikely to buy those, even if the pics are more recent

What I hope is that the boys don't waste too much time on the merchandise & work on what matters to us: the music & the tour...

Like I said previously, I only own the fragrance (& CDs and DVDs)... I suppose I would like some cool design on a key chain or a mug... and the new frangrance maybe?
I don't think that they'll make a lot of money on me.

They do mugs! Merchandise wise (excluding CD's and DVD's) I've got a mug, a book, a blanket , a t-shirt, 'signed' photos, tour programme, perfume, calender, way too many posters (you don't want to know how many are on my walls), and I had an easter egg and an advent calendar. Lol!

They're lucky they've got one of the £12,000 'meet Louis' bought but overall I don't think the campaign is going well. Directioners are quick to buy stuff online but it's been a few days now and they've only had 376 donations (out of Louis's 16M Twitter followers). Quite a few aren't 1D fans judging by the purchases of videos from the other people involved. I reckon his co-owners thought they would get a flood of people wanting to buy scarves, photos etc.

I'm not sure about the last sentence, it can't mean that people get given their money surely. Maybe it's more a 'we can't do everything we wanted' thing.

I wonder if the fact it's in Doncaster is putting people off? Not that there is anything wrong with the place, it's really nice, but it's not the first place people would think to go and visit.

I hope the tweet about them being in the studio is about a recording studio rather than a photographic one. They do need a lot of new merchandise photos though - the ones on the first round of 1D make up are from 2012.

I feel it is different when male celebs sell make up and perfume than when female ones do. The boys aren't saying 'Look like us!' - they're saying 'these are the things we like on a girl', which builds demand through fans who are trying their hardest to marry these boys. They're not even modelling the make up in the promo photos (although wouldn't that be fun!). So it's just a really odd thing to do as we know the boys aren't really all that excited about their ideal shade of lipgloss (despite Niall's tweet). Whereas I do think that Little Mix like the nail wrap things they have brought out. Girls Aloud are making money off their false eyelash range. Other male celebs like David Beckham, Jay Z release fragrances for men but clearly 1D are not at all in that marketplace. JLS had a line of condoms . I do think the 1D make up items are very overpriced as the bottles of nail varnish are tiny. They're very much aimed at 12 year olds.

Overall I think it weakens the brand, particularly when - as Denise points out - they are supposed to be moving forward. But oh well, they've got to get the cash to pay for luxury items like second rate football clubs And when I marry Niall half that money is mine wahoo!!!

I think that's it - most of the fans are the other side of the world. Niall's Leicester match was more convenient for UK fans and had 4/5 plus other celebs and even that didn't sell out. It is really not connected to what fans are passionate about at all (i.e. One Direction, pop music, social media etc.). Zayn can't even get fans to buy Little Mix stuff when that's fits in really well. You have to be a real Louis girl to want to buy a scarf with his football shirt number on it rather than a 1D scarf, and with everything that's gone on lately, plus how he looks and how lacklustre he's been in shows, I just don't see any excitement to be a part of this. A year ago maybe but not now. I guess they hope that the rest of the money will be raised from drumming up local interest from sports fans but it's very Louis-heavy.

Zayn donated two guitars for a charity auction:
pic.twitter.com/KRtdOYf0nH
http://www.sugarscape.com/main-topic...y-ninewells-ho

I don't think they'll get £20,000 (people really overestimate fans love for anything the boys have touched) but hopefully it'll raise a lot.

Same for me and only the first fragrance. I didn't like the 2nd and haven't smelt you and I yet . But I never like a 2nd perfume in any range , none as good as the first !

Oh and I have helped the coffers by buying for my granddaughters ! Toothbrushes , t shirts and bracelets and forgot I also bought all their books which are rubbish and tell us nothing we don't already know !

I also read further back about ed sheer an being asked to write for their new album but couldn't comment at the time . I too am very confused as didn't Liam say in an interview think radio one big week end that this album had less co writes and more just them ?

I wonder if Simon not happy with their songs or am I reading too much into it . If that's the case I can't imagine that leading to a happy band camp

We do see/hear lots about who they have been writing with etc, but don't forget an album has around 20 songs (Inc. Delux editions). Zayn we know has done one with Naughty Boy, Niall with McBusted, Liam/Louis with their on road writer. There are also rumours of The 1975 and Ed Sheeran. Harry has been writing but appears to be not for 1D. I have probably forgot some here but these will not fill an album.

They are spending so much time touring the world as well as fit in other engagements it's a wonder they manage to make albums at all! Writing really is not something that should be done under the conditions they are forced to.
