I do think that you guys are forgetting about their achievements though this year and being a bit down on things. It's not like they have lost their whole fan base and are about to call it a day.

They've just confirmed in the interview with Scott Mills that the next single is called "Night Changes".

The Radio 1 interview was cute I thought. I like Scott because he asks them about their music and controls the boys so Zayn can get two words in. They are doing lots of other interviews this afternoon including Yahoo UK. It appears that the journalists are getting to hear some album tracks as well so I'm thinking it is very likely that this evening's book signing will be a listening party. I'm excited, it's felt like a long wait for the promo to start but here we go

Steal My Girl is #6 on the midweeks. The video and spotify streaming has helped a lot, I hope it stays Top 10 til the boys' XF appearance (I'm assuming pre-record for Sun 16th).

I just heard Taylor Swift's next single Blank Space on R1. I think Night Changes could make its radio and TV performance debuts on release week. I hope they do more than the Today Show that week, perhaps going on Tonight Show or Letterman. An iHeart session as well please. Canada must be desperate for a visit, I don't think they've done a single TV appearance there. I'm interested in how they stage Steal My Girl. It will work well in the big XF studio, less well on smaller stages like the nighttime chat shows so fingers crossed Night Changes for any of those.

Why perform SMG at all? Haven't you been right all along in saying they will release a second single in time for the album release? Since this has been pretty much confirmed today (not the exact date though), why not perform a nice, wintery ballad in November? I doubt SMG would peak any higher than #3 anyway, so I'd say they'd focus their promo (live performances) on the second song...

I'd love them to leave SMG and move on to Night Changes but it looks like we'll be getting some SMG all the way through to December:

I'm sure they'll be performing it at the X Factor and at Universal Studios - I just hope they have a 2nd song out around then that they could also do at Universal and other shows. On release week last year the boys performed BSE, SOML and Midnight Memories. SMG is not strong enough to sell an album on its own and non-fans won't have heard Fireproof. It would be great if the Night Changes video was ready to go straightaway, hit everyone with lots of stuff at once.

Wow, SMG is up to #18 in the Billboard Hot 100 charts (from #40 last week).

I wonder if it is thanks to the video or if it's the radio airplay that has picked up. It's good news anyway

Mainly streaming (youtube views count towards the Hot 100 charts), plus the video had a positive effect on the itunes position (from #30 up to #13). Airplay has probably contributed the least, even though it has continued to rise (albeit slowly).
