I'm now intrigued at what the concept of the video will be. I wasn't expecting OAP's.

With SOML still doing so well, I am a bit surprised that they are not waiting another week or 2 (when airplay starts decreasing).

Isn't that mainly in America where it is still going strong though? It isn't doing as well in the UK now and the pre-orders for MM are excluding the US.

The song was still doing OK in 1D term in those countries, especially for one that was released so long ago. And it seems to be doing well on its own (no promo event, interview...), probably thanks to the fact that people simply like it -I suppose it also means it still gets played on the radio/TV though, I don't see how it would still sell otherwise. Of course I don't know where things stand right now.
I am unsure that Midnight Memories will be quite as populare (I would love to be wrong, we'll see), so maybe that's why I am not as enthousiastic about the launch of the new single...

The American charts work differently though. With the Hot 100 songs are based on Airplay, sales and streaming. Songs can be on the Hot 100 for months and months. And they can enter at 80 or 90 and take months and months to get to the top 10. Sales wise SOML did brilliantly in the UK. I am sure Andi will tell us, but it must be one of their biggest selling singles?

On the 1D facebook page it says that MM is the single outside of the US. I wonder if they are going with a different song in the US or holding back the release for a while.

I don't understand the concept of preordering the song MM when it's already available... Can't you buy the individual tracks from the album itself? Even in the US, they could buy the song MM only if they wanted to, couldn't they?
IMO, releasing a single has lost lots of its meaning since digital sales rule the single market... Especially post-album singles. It's a promo tool mainly IMO.

Sorry if my previous post was completely wrong. I'm not too clued up on that sort of stuff but I just got the idea that SOML was kind of passing now excluding America.

Even with SOML still doing well I think it's good that they are going to release MM soon. I think it's smart to keep things going without too big a gap with nothing 1D related. In the media at the moment all the stories relating to them have all been pretty boring (to me anyway) like Harry and Kendall or Liam's rant at journalists. None about the music compared to Christmas time where there was lots of hype about both the album and single so with having a new video out at least they are going to be on radio and TV with something new and exiting but more importantly their music.

I think it is good that MM isn't for the US. If they do release a different 3rd single over there I would like it to be Through The Dark.

Don't worry it wasn't wrong. It's just the American charts work differently and it took me a while to get my head round it. They have so many different charts too. In some ways, I like the hot 100 because it gives an indicator of what people like to listen to on the radio and stream on things like Spotify etc not just sales.

I am not sure, maybe it's sinking everywhere (apart from the US) by now. I am waiting for our number guy

I'd describe it as going down in a normal way rather than sinking as it did really well in the charts especially the UK, Canada, Ireland and Australia.

For Albums labels and artists would look at the Billboard Hot 200. For singles, I guess they'd look at the Hot 100 and the billboard Digital sales chart.

They all look so gorgeous on the MM single cover. I can't breathe.

I hope it at least manages to go top 10 in the UK. If my memory is correct, they've yet to have a single peak outside the top 10. This would be their tenth top ten hit in the UK.

Their lowest was 9 with Kiss You. I doubt they'll be too worried if it doesn't. The album sold so well. I reckon we may get a top 5 placing if the video is good like BSE.

It's a quite honest interview...
Though IMO: TW could have attracted more fans if they hadn't acted the way they did -whether it's their overboard LADS attitude OR how they started & then played too much with the 1D rivalry (friendly rivalry would have given them headlines, unfriendly rivalry made fans feel like they had to choose between 1D and TW, and most chose 1D).

In order to have a large fanbase, you usually need to be likable (like 1D): fans like you for more than just your music & root for you.
Of course music matters! I wouldn't buy an album I don't like on purpose just because I like the singer, but being a likeable bunch helps garnering longer-term support IMO.

Yeah, he was quite honest although I do think they are hiding the fact that they were going to be dropped anyway. The sales for there last album were appalling.

Yes, you are probably right about having been dropped, I forgot about that.

Every single they had out did worse and worse as well. And they never had another hit in the states after a Glad You Came. They rode on the coattails of that in the states.

I don't understand the concept for now tbh, but I agree that it looks good: funny (what are those grand mothers on scooter doing there? I like this unexpected element) & it seems like a big video (the bridge shoot was a big hint I suppose).
I hope the video will live up to my expectations, cause they went up after those shots .

The fandom is of course talking about breaking the Vevo record.
But I am a bit over that (*bad fan!* ): not only is it hardly doable (even with a great video, they are still not naked! it won't be scandalous enough), but it takes away from the enjoyment of just watching it in a way...
