Many fans seem to love them, So it's a good thing for them.

I quite like their new single so I'll be happy with that. I like that 5SOS don't mind the association to 1D. I heard an interview with them and they were asked about the boys and they seemed really grateful for the support they've received from them.

Oh right. Surprising then. I wonder if they will be announced for the UK soon then as well as 5SOS?

They're very lucky guys. The exposure from going on the two tours with 1D is Massive for a new group.

I was reading the thread on the music forum about whether support acts get paid or have to pay to perform? Quite interesting comments. I wonder if they are paying to support one direction, the pay out would be worth it.

Also, thinking about it the boys have only ever been a support act once . What a meteoric rise to fame

Yeah I think it's a bit weird that they are supporting at a France show and not a UK one so maybe they will be doing more than that date. If they do announce anything I'd be very happy!

I agree. Also the fact that they are getting to play stadiums is huge.

I would imagine the support acts get a set fee per show plus travel and food etc. I think the real monetary benefit for 5SOS is when fans buy their T Shirts and other Merchandise. I bet they'll make a lot more on Merchandise sales this year thanks to the exposure they had on the TMH tour last year. I read that their Debut Single She Looks So Perfect went to No 1 on iTunes in 39 countries. And all the interviews I have seen with them they seem like really nice blokes. And Ashton and Callum are rather delicious.

5sos are also managed by Modest Management so it makes sense that they are supporting the boys again on tour. Strange that McBusted are only doing the one date in France rather than a UK one.

I never knew that. Although I just checked Modest' website, and they are not listed as one of their artists.

Edit: Just did a Google and they are signed to Wonder Management.

I remember a while back that someone found out that Liam and Louis were like part owners of 5sos' brand, which I think explains why they are helping them make it. They've got a financial stake in their success.

So what do ppl think about Y & I being the next US single?

I guess they've been inspired by the radio success of SOML but I hate when artist release similarly paced songs for that reason. I think that's playing it safe and that often that eventually doesn't work. I love Y&I but don't think it has the umpth it needs to be a hit.

My opinion of You & I as a single: not catchy enough. The end is stunning, but it's too slow & somewhat monotonous untill you get there. I am not sure that casual radio listeners will listen to it untill the end & not simply change radio during the beginning & middle because the song just takes too long to take off for a radio single.

Considering there are much better suited songs on the album (Happily, Through the Dark, Diana & Little White Lies IMO), I think this is another missed opportunity...
I love the album & think that there are several potencial singles in it, I am therefore disapointed in their last single choices.

But I would never have anticipated the radio success of SOML in the US, so what do I know?

There are so many rumours on the Internet that I have a hard time sorting out the thruth.

It's actually strange how we are building our perception of certain things on some rumours (most of them coming from anonymous sources...) that have either been repeated often enough for us to accept them as truth, or that we would like to be true maybe...

Isn't "She Looks So Perfect" only released tomorrow? Maybe it's the pre-order that went to #1. It's a really good song though!

Hehe, they officially were a supporting act. But weren't lots of fans leaving after their part of the show, before BTR even started?

It's very impressive that they came out on top! ”

Sorry for bringing up that old post again... Been away for a few days.
But I think this number for the album (4 million) is the number of copies they've ACTUALLY sold (maybe up to the end of January of this year, not only 2013).

The other list (Global Recording Artists) is the one including streaming etc.

So they topped both lists!

It's been released in other countries before the UK.

That was my thread

I think 5SOS will be getting a discount as Louis has a share in the 5SOS brand. He's very canny Mr Tomlinson. Although let's face it he probably has least solo earning potential post-1D. It's lovely that the two groups get along really well, along with 1D's backing band they have a great group of lads on tour. Interesting to see if they get dancers and extra musicians for WWA, they need to put on a much bigger show.

We called Midnight Memories's flop right though didn't we I think releasing You & I straight off SOML is a big error - the boys didn't write it, it's very slow and doesn't build anywhere. They should release an up tempo song. Zayn's vocals are impressive but you can't sing along to it. And I don't think he'll be able to hit THAT note regularly live. Niall sounds great though - it satisfies my Ziall cravings haha

Has the Y&I = next single just come from that one radio station's tweet though? Bc US stations have been playing lots of songs off the album, Diana's had quite a bit of play. Fingers crossed it was just the station playing a new song. If they do release a new single they would have to shoot a video for it soon. Unless they do something arty that doesn't have them in. Or have an extended Niall video from 1D Day Their management just lets these rumours float around Twitter, I seriously think the boys need to sort their team out.

I think it's a very bad choice. The song doesn't have enough oomph for me, I find it's build up quite dissapointed. Personally I don't think it will do very chart/sales wise. Ideally I would love for Through The Dark to be the next single both in the US and UK (if they release a fourth single here).

US radio is really in love with slow, stripped back ballads right now. All of Me and Say Something are both big hits and they're pretty slow, uneventful songs. So I don't think the pace of You & I will be a detriment to it's success right now. It fills a similar niche that SOML did without being too similar to it (which is why Through The Dark would be a bad single choice right after SOML in my opinion).
