Yes, there is indeed a bottom 2 this weekend. It seems the producers have become even more shameless than ever, as it's the first time in 10 series of The X Factor that they're doing a bottom 2 when there are only 4 people left (a bottom 2 in the semifinal isn't unprecedented though, remember the Mary Byrne/Cher Lloyd surprise sing-off back in 2010?).

Now there are a couple of reasons I can think of for making this this particular decision. Looking at last year's voting stats, I think the producers are hoping this weekend's vote will turn out similar this year. If there was a sing-off at this stage last year, Christopher Maloney would have never made it to the final. I think Nicholas is in the same position Chris was in last year, he's a hit with the older viewers and is doing too well for the producers' liking - they are hoping that he finishes 3rd this weekend so they can give him the boot in the sing-off.

If there is a bottom two this weekend, Rough Copy may have a life line. I wondered whether TPTB would do this in order to get Nicholas out. Hopefully it works.

Also, it could mean that Rough Copy bounce in the final to second place if they fall into the bottom two this week.

I think the producers would only do a sing-off if it's likely or at least possible that Nicholas could fall into the bottom two. With Luke likely to bounce from last week's sing-off and Sam presumably far ahead in votes, I think it is definitely possible for Nicholas to be vulnerable. I think this week's sing-off is just as much about helping Rough Copy as it is about hindering Nicholas. Let's face it, a Sam/Luke/Nicholas final sounds just a boring as last year's.

I hope this is why there is a sing off tomorrow that would be brilliant.

I will be absolutely shocked if it isn't Luke and Rough Copy in the sing off tomorrow night.

Shame, I do like Luke.

I think it will these two acts as well. I'm not too fussed about Rough Copy, to me they have been a bit of a let down. Whereas Luke has gone up in my estimations each week, but if he's bottom 2 he'll be going home I think. Sharon told Hannah she couldn't save her because she'd been bottom 2 three times.

It will be Rough Copy versus Luke. It should just be who is bottom goes home.

It will be Rough Copy versus Luke. It should just be who is bottom goes home. Indeed it should be that every week. It would stop the manipulation. We should just be told who came last, keep us guessing all through the series.

I don't know, I think we need a chance to see if people are getting complacent in the voting because that then influences people to vote more but I do think what you said should be the case for the last 3 weeks of the competition
