Next year is 25 years since the Berlin Wall fell - coincidentally, 200 years after the French Revolution of which Dickens wrote: "Bliss in that morning to be alive".

One song captured the feeling then in a way that no other song ever has. I was in the (now) Czech Republic in the August - 3 hours to cross the border and 5 to comeback, playing volleyball as a Czech helicopter gunship flew over. Two months later, it was all gone.

For those of you too young to remember those heady days

For a moment I though it was going to be David Hasselhoff.

Is there any reason why you associate that song with the fall of the Berlin wall?

Presumably because it's by a German band, was released about the same time the wall came down and is about social change and freedom

Because in the Czech Republic in August, I could feel the air of expectation - it was unlike anything I have ever felt before or since and it is this song, which was released in 91, which reflects those events of 89-91, most notably the fall of the Wall. It is one those "you had to be there" times.
