With a female winner looking more and more likely as we reach the latter stages of the show do we think this is more by intend or circumstance? Do you think the producers purposely cast weaker males or do you think the male cast was more a circumstance of who was available to participate?

I think they've wanted a female winner all along and they purposely skewed the line up for this reason.

I think they intended for a woman to win but they've realised how unbalanced it is, so had to throw the guys a bone with the scores etc.

It's going to be either Susanna or Sophie. If they're STILL in after last night. My money is on Susanna though, plus she's doing the tour and Sophie isn't.......so....yeah.

I have been following ballroom dancing for more years than I care to admit, in fact long before this show started, and I have always thought that, generally speaking, men know more about dancing but women are the better dancers. To me, Natalie stands out as the obvious best dancer, but whether she will win the popularity vote is another matter. Look at the way Darren Gough won in spite of being so stiff and clumsy.

The winner doesn't always have to do the tour, but I think you're right in saying Susanna will win. She seems to have the most public support.

I'd like it to be Natalie, at a stretch Abbey (although not a fan of hers) as I prefer her to the other females. Sophie as nice as she is bores me to tears. I cant warm to Susannah at all.

I think if anything the producers are desperate to have a male In the final and are very much pushing Patrick for that role. Last night, his Rhumba was good, one of my favourite dances of the night but not a 10.

I have absolutely no idea who will win ultimately. I think Natalie still has a good chance, she is after all the best technically able dancer and can dance beautifully but while she is appearing less 'stage school' these last couple of weeks she still pulls unfortunate faces and is quite detached.

Abbey has, IMO, improved the most, has had a proper journey. She shows her love of dance and that is very appealing. However, she seems to annoy a lot of viewers too.

Susanna was doing well, I admire her drive and enthusiasm, she also has a partner who has become very popular, fast. But she does need to get a handle on her facial expressions and lighten her dance moves, she has appeared clompy of late.

Then there is Sophie. Exquisitely graceful, beautiful and natural. Has a partner who is producing good choreography, is improving but not at the rate Abbey is. She still seems wobbly and lacking in confidence. She is my favourite because I like watching her more than the others and she doesn't irritate me.

So, it really is anyone"s game

I agree. They wanted a female winner from the get go. It reminds me a bit of series 3 where they wanted a man to win. It's been more obvious this series though. The only reason they are overmarking Patrick is because they know he hasn't a hope in winning. If they have to have a man in the final then make sure it's not someone who is going to pose a threat to a female winner.

I agree as much as I like Patrick, I've voted for him quite a bit and wouldn't mind seeing him in the finals, I have to admit I do think he's been over marked at times - and he definitely IMO should have been called out earlier in the swingathon last night.

To be slightly controversial - I can't see a middle aged black man whose been in the dance off posing a threat to the female front runners if he gets the final.

I don't think it could have been more transparent that TPTB were gunning for a female winner this year if the males had all come out with "WE IS ALL RUBBISH!" tattooed on their forehead.

I think there may be an inkling of truth with the theories about Patrick. I personally think he is the best male dancer this year and better than a couple of the females left but I can see how people might think he's been overmarked. In fact I think so too.

There may or may not still be an agenda to drag Patrick to the final but final or semi-final, I can see the judges dropping him like a stone once he's served his purpose.
Well the producers will get their female winner but for me, at least, it won't be the way I'd like to have seen it achieved - whoever it is.

I have thought since week two that it would be a female winner, the men were so poor from the start. The female celebs were far better right from the start, heck if Rachel Riley had got a bit of luck we could have lost the last male this weekend.

Nope, that's pushing it too far .

Natalie would have been better of with Brendan. She is a wonderful dancing but the partnership with Artem lacks chemistry and I think Brendan might have designed choreography that suited her rather than what Artem does which is showcase his own brilliance. He is brilliant and I enjoy his dancing, but I think with Artem it is all about him. Brendan has matured and realised that you need to choreograph for the personality. I think he might have been able to develop Natalie's emotional side which is what is missing for me in her performance

Earlier in the year after Natalie left Corrie there were articles in which she was quoted as saying words to the effect of she'd love to take part in Strictly and she wanted Brendan as her partner. I think it's such a shame she's come in for so much flack over her training because it seems she's been a mega fan of the show for a long time and all she did was accept an invitation to be part of a light entertainment show where lets face it there's no hard and fast rules about previous training. A partnership with Brendan would certainly have been interesting. I think she will get to the finals but think she has very little chance of winning not because of her partnership with Artem but because of the controversy re her training.

I think she works well with Artem - she's a little bit too tall for him but I think in a year where there were quite a few tall female celebs Brendan had to have Sophie whose slightly taller than Natalie. Artem like Aliona is a controversial choreographer - perhaps they also gave Natlie the controversial pro to add to the whole controversy surrounding her?

As I said a Natalie and Brendan pairing would have certainly been interesting but I'm really liking him with Sohpie - I think they've done some delightful routines.

Great post. Agree with every word. She is a bit too tall for Artem and their bodies just don't fit, nor they gel emotionally for me. I like the lady and think she has been great but she hasn't demonstrated the star quality that a winner needs

The producers seemed have a poor bunch of male celebs from the start but to their great credit the guys all gave it a really good go. Ashley and Patrick are at the required dance standard but they just haven't connected with the public. I doubt the BBC would have guessed that their 50 year Casualty star would be such a good dancer but with no support from a Saturday night audience.

Really hope Abbey wins, Sophie and Susanna are not up to scratch and there is no warmth whatsoever between Natalie and Artem, I don't enjoy watching them.

Really love Abbey and Aljaz' partnership.

And how Louis Smith, with two left feet, won last year over the best celebrity dancer we have ever seen on this show.

It will be very interesting to see who is in the dance off with Patrick this saturday out of the 4 remaining ladies - ok, I know I am just assuming that Patrick will be there but the dance off is kinda following a pattern now, Ashley in dance off with Mark, Ashley saved, Ashley in dance off again with Patrick, Patrick saved......

I, for one, have no idea who, out of the 4 ladies left, has the LEAST public support, I guess this saturday will tell me

Yeah, just said elsewhere that the male celebs this year were:
An almost septagenerian, a comedy contestant who couldn't dance, a comedy contestant who could with jippy knees, a Julien, an immobile rugby player, an overworked new dad and a quiet older guy. It wasn't loaded in favour of the guys put it that way
If they were hoping that one or more of the more able male celebs would also click with the public personality wise, then they lost out there as well - because the female side are winning hands down there as well.

It seems that the 'tradional' schedule now seems to be 2 male celeb wins, followed by a female win. This is year 3 of the cycle

Louis won because he connected with the audience more than Denise, Kimberely and Dani. And he didn't have 'two left feet'- I know it's only your opinion but it's just an absurd thing to say. He worked hard with Flavia and for someone who'd never danced ballroom and latin and didn't have much in the way of performance experience he became a very good amateur dancer towards the end of the show.
