McBusted have signed with Sony?
There is a press conference tomorrow, but the Sun have said that they're signing with Sony to commit to an album and McFly's album has been cancelled for the time being.
James Bourne from Busted has just been having a twitter war with McFly fans who are sending him hate for it. Personally, as a McFly fan I can understand that this is HUGE for them and I can understand why they would push their own music aside. They've always been with Universal when signed, but have recently been on their own label 'Super Records' so this is pretty major... the hype has been too big to give in to so why not. |

Oh, so that's what the big press conference is about. I guess it was inevitable after the tour has done so well, but its a shame if cos of this album 6 never gets to see the light of day.

It was only a gig at Hyde Park. People on twitter were getting stressed for no reason!
Wish I could go but already have tickets for the O2. |

I'm mystified as to why McFly would go backwards like this. Apart from money.
I wrote on a thread about the noughties in GD, there isn't anything from that era that sounds as dated as Busted and early McFly tracks. Yet McFly evolved from that to do something different. I'm not a fan, but at least credit to them for lasting ten years and proving they're not a one trick pony like... Busted. Yet they're going back to them... presumably it will all be music in that whiney, faux-American frat boy accented singing, like bloody Son of Dork. The appeal for McFly, I guess, would be a big tour on which they attract people who were 10, 11 years old in 2003, who are now students, wanting to relive their childhood. Well, if that's what they want, fine, but it's the end of them as a contemporary act, which is what they were doing stuff with Taio Cruz. Busted were just a fly-by-night novelty act who had their moment, but Son of Dork showed exactly how James Bourne for one seems incapable of doing anything else, and I'm not surprised Charlie Simpson isn't getting involved. |

I agree about son of Dork but James has proven he is a very talented songwriter with loads of big hits from songs he has written, check out wicki and you would be surprised at his style and output. I don't think McFly need this as much as busted but both will do well out of it even if it is just one tour and album |

Personally that's a bit harsh. Back in the day, Busted were way bigger than McFly and who knows whether they would have peaked or not if they had carried on . McFly actually gained from Busted splitting up with fans moving over to them.
I assumed Charlie got out because he didn't want to keep doing the same stuff over and over, which is what looked like happening. I do remember thinking they were awful... it was the singing in American accents and obsession with American culture and phraseology that annoyed me, from an English group. I was doing hospital radio at the time, and had to play them on the chart show, when there was stuff not getting anywhere that I would much rather have played. But if people want to go and relive their childhood by going to see them, well I guess it doesn't do anyone any harm, maybe McFly are just saying thanks for the help they got from Busted when starting out. That's me being charitable.

The above reason is why I believe Charlie simply couldn't go back either. It would be the equivalent of him regressing back to an infant compared to what his musical capabilities are now.
Basically as a singer/songwriter, vocalist and all round musician both in Fightstar and solo works he's reached too high a level. Where he's been critically acclaimed and held up as frontman of one of the UK's best post hardcore bands of the past 10 years. Matt and James have been stuck in time as musicians and it's great they aren't held back from reminiscing and having nostalgia like the fans who are going to the concerts. However I agree McFly have progressed far from their origins and Charlie has progressed even further. |
