Hi everyone,
Im hoping that someone might be able to give me some guidance on DTRs.

I bought a new BUSH BTU160DTR about 7 years ago for £50. It has been brilliant but recently seems to be on its way out. The guide doesnt always recognise what time it is even though the box itself does. This means that it is missing recordings. Its not to bad as long at the box is off but if we are using it at the same time it misses everything or continues recording a channel for hours because it cant tell a program has finished.

Anyway, I am looking to replace it but I cant find a machine that does what it does. Simply, I want a DTR that will let me record 2 channels while watching a recorded program at the same time. Everything that I can find says you can record 2 channels OR watch a recording while recording 1 other channel.

There are 5 of us in this house and the need to be able to record 2 at the same time is huge but also to be able to watch a recording while this is happening!

I have noticed as well that there aren't any products on the market (that I can find) that are even close to the £50 I paid all that time ago - so if I have to at least double the money I spent before, I do expect it to do at least the same!

Can anyone advise me?

Thank you

This one definitely says it can record two things whilst you watch something already recorded but the Amazon reviews are not great

Record 2 channels and watch another recording

With the twin tuners, you can simultaneously watch one channel and record another or record two channels and watch something already recorded.

Don't most of the twin tuner PVRs let you record 2 channels whilst watching one that's already been recorded? The Humax PVRs I just looked up at random both did this, one of them even let you record 3 programs if 2 were on the same mux. (I'm on Sky so not up to date with Freeview PVRs but would be surprised if most didn't do this).

I doubt there is a twin tuner pvr available that does not do what the OP wants.

To watch a recording you do not need a tuner. it's already done it's job converting the broadcast stream to a digital data stream you can record to a hard disc.

Humax pvrs have an extra trick up their sleeves, one tuner can decode the two broadcasts from the same mux/transponder using a single tuner and record both. The other tuner can be used to watch and time shift any other channel. The newer ones can even record this channel from the beginning after one of the two recordings has finished.

The Samsung BD-F8500 will do what you want and more...at a price. I was thinking about buying this myself and last week asked John Lewis if they would price match the £249 quoted by TV and Video Direct. They said they would.

Here's a review of the preceding E model from Trusted Reviews: http://www.trustedreviews.com/samsun...top-box_review

The Samsung and Humax mentioned here both will, as will the Digitalstream PVRs, the TVOnics PVRs too.

In fact I am not aware of any current generation PVR that wont do what the OP wants, including the newer Youview PVRs.
