So Susannah and Kevin had to get at least 6 and Patrick only 1 for Susannah not to be in the dance off and Patrick to be in the dance off. Any other place for either couple would have meant Patrick wouldn't have been in the dance off, or if he was Susannah would have been there too. Does that make sense? Does anyone who normally works out the scoring agree with this?”
Susanna had to be first or second in the public vote. If the judges leaderboard didn't tie Natalie and Patrick at the top, and Patrick was still at the top on his own, then Susanna would only have received 1 point from the judges - so to avoid the DO, we would know that she had topped the vote. But since there was a tie, she received 2 points from the judges, compared to Patrick's 6, so she could have come second in the public vote to get a total of 7 (2+5) if Patrick was last and also on a combined score of 7 (6+1).
Similarly, Patrick had to be last or second last. The only person who could have received less votes than him is Ashley. So if Patrick was second to last (6+2), Ashley would have had to have been last (3+1) and Susanna would have had to have been first (2+6).
