and that is evidence that they are judges favourites? I think not. They are top of the leaderboard because they are the best dancers and, if they had been treated fairly, they would have been top of the leaderboard most weeks.

I think he's certainly Darcey's favourite of late! But, on scores, he does have the joint-lowest average.

I don't understand, Yellowlabbie -- it's as if we're in some inverse world here where good is bad. Abbey, Patrick and Natalie have all been given top scores and some great comments by the judges. The judges like them. Being favoured by the judges is a good thing in a competitive situation

It might not be the decisive factor but it's at least an encouraging sign

Patrick and Abbey are quite obviously judges favourites.”

I am lost now. Surely by definition the judges favourite is the one who finishes top of the leader board each week and therefore the judges favourite overall is the person who finishes top of the judges leader board most often.

but Natalie is not judges favourite imo. Len has been openly nasty to her on many occasions and both Len and Craig have marked her down for things that they have let others off for.

"Judges favourite" is being used to mean "overmarked teachers pet". I don't know if people are deliberately playing dumb or they just don't get forum lingo. Nobody ever uses it as a compliment.

Regardless, nice to see it's Patrick's turn. Last week it was Abbey, and the week before it was "zomg how can Natalie be top with that piece of shit tango BIAS RIG BIAS".

No, I see judges favourite as those they like whether they are the best dancers or not eg Abbey and Patrick. The judges don't have to favour them because they are the best dancers.

Thank you, it is very annoying but anything for some to belittle Natalie again.

'Overmarked teacher's pet' has to be a different thing to 'favourite' though or there's no point in the judges. Do posters have no trust in the judges at all? Being a judges' favourite at this stage of the competition has to be to the credit of the dancer -- even the ones I don't like.

ETA looking back at the OP, he says he's not bashing Patrick but asking the honest question 'why?'
I think favourite means favourite here -- I hope

Now this is ridiculous! I'm using 'favourite' positively. How can I be belittling her? I'm putting her in a group of three dancers who would in my eyes be deserving winners.

Your defensiveness is a little annoying now. And it takes a lot to annoy me

Well I am not dumb and am not playing dumb. I assumed that we were all using standard English and the common definitions of our shared language. I was unaware the forum had developed its own lexicon. Is there a glossary somewhere I can refer to?

BIB - I do. Actually I don't think it serves as a complimentary term just a word to describe a concept which in my world means the most favoured, so has no particular connotations of negativity or positivity.

Patrick is certainly one of MY favourites ! I like Susanna but I have to admit she's the weakest dancer left, so really ought to be out next week and Patrick should be in the final.

Please will you stop using unacceptable language in your posts. I'm not a prude, but some of us greatly dislike four letter words such as the one you used and are sick of them being used as 'normal' language.

I guess if the forum doesn't automatically **** it out! it's deemed appropriate language as far as it's concerned.

I was surprised with the ripe language the forum will let you use. I confess I am one who uses words others might find offensive from time to time. It's how it's used often rather than the words themselves that are harmful, to my mind, but I apologise for calling this -----> a random little bugger on another thread. (I like him! I really do, before his fans take umbrage )

I don't think Patrick is a favourite. He's one of my favourites as his dancing is sublime and I still haven't gotten over Craig giving him a 7 for that Charleston, but I'll just wander off into the corner and quietly mutter to myself until I feel better.

As you say Monkseal, judges' favourite seems to change from week to week based on who got the best marks and which forumite thinks their favourite was "done over" in place of said judges' favourite.
However, I think it's fairly clear from the regularity of Natalie's position high on the leader board that the judges' do look favourably on her for ability and performance and award points accordingly.

Indeed, the forum software is automatically filtered for what are considered to be offensive words.

I still think it looks like a bear and resembles a cat about as much as a giraffe looks like a zebra.

I also think it looks like a bear BTW.

Its cute but I have NO idea what it is for.

Heh no but I imagine that would be quite a cool job. I was a journalist for 20 years up until I had my son five years ago so I like being abstract with words because for years I could only write "sensible proper stuff" .
Now I help out a bit at his school and allegedly work for Boots the Chemists when the gits can be bothered to give me any hours (a job I did once before as a customer assistant 10 years ago while in between journalism contracts).

And I'm still naffed off they removed the rolleyes smiley, he was my favourite
