Brendan And Sophie Did A Lift!!!!
ballroomsponge

Why was the blatantly obvious lift, which incidentally covered half the floor, that they did not picked up by the judges and castigated? I thought it was not allowed in Tango. She could have stepped into the shop window then stood still!
I can recall previous occasions where lifts of centimetres of the floor were marked down. This one was over the shoulder!!
CONSISTENCY PLEASE.

Maybe they considered the dance to be over by then, since there were no more dance steps performed after the lift. Not sure if that's an excuse or a reason.

It wasn't a lift, the dance was over and it was part of the story being told. A very clever twist and choreography, making the dance very memorable

I know there was one. James sent a rather sarcastic tweet to Brendan saying 'nice lift mate' & I thought what lift so I looked again & ofcourse it's there & I didn't really twig.

That was a lift no mistaking.

Yes it was most definitely a lift. But rather than a lift to please the crowd it was akin to a dancer being lifted from the judges table. So not dance enhancing. If that is illegal then coming in on a high wire or magic carpet or anything similar must also be classified as such.

LOL, it is only know that I see what people are calling a lift (and I have seen this dance quite a few times).

I was gobsmacked when I twigged the storyline - having Sophie "perform" the role of a shop window mannequin to be carried around. The irony in it.

I have to say that amused me too. Weeks of being told to be a bit more animated & then she gets to be a doll again & sent her to practise something she's already perfect at. (oh & I like Sophie okay people)

Exactly so. It wasn't dancing, it was faffing about. Which provided you don't spend long enough doing it to press Len's buttons is allowed!

Maybe Brendan was giving the flip to Sophie's detractors

I so wish that were true haha

Probably because it was the ending move of the dance rather than a "lift" during the main body of the routine.

You're right OP, it was a blatant breaking of the rules . Surely they are required to dance to the last bar of the music and he lifted her way before the music stopped.

Appears it's acceptable to fly in but not lift out ......

That was it I think people have been carried out to music and off I believe there was no dancing that followed it

I would have felt like this if they got a 10, but they didn't, so I don't see what the problem is. They may have been marked down for it anyway, and the judges just didn't mention it (remember they were pushed for time).

I think this thread is just criticism for the sake of criticism and Sophie and Brendan have had more of their fair share of that. It was not a dance lift - to say so is just plain daft. Would the OP ban things like Ashley coming in on a flying carpet or any of the other entrances from above?

What took you so long, it's Tuesday already As others said, it was after the dance ended, story continued a few more seconds after that. What I liked that Brendan showed that you can do a proper dance, you can use a modern music and you can tell a story, you can do it all at the same time. Artem, were you watching?

At least Brendan lifted Sophie.

Ashley was lifted in by a crane.

I think they should have 90 seconds of dancing the dance you were asked to dance and give them another 30 seconds to faff about, be that at the start or end or split it over both.

At the moment there seems to be no limit on how long you take before you start dancing the actual dance or how long after you stop dancing the actual dance.

At least the rest was a full on tango so I did not feel cheated and thus the ending was not irritating for me. Like it was with let's say Robin's Viennese Waltz and that bloody table. Or Artem's latest choreographies are basically all just faffing about. He says he wants to tell the story in the first place, but as I see it he's telling the same story all over again, two butterflies flying from one flower to another.

is this serious? is the OP talking about the ending when Brendan carried Sophie? that wasnt a lift! it was the end of the dance for goodness sake, if the judges were going to penalise for that then they need to penalise for flying carpets, dances when the female ends up in the males arms, harnesses, cannons, flying cars, beds - I could go on......
