I got a carrier update from 3 about an hour ago and it changed something in my settings. It says enable 4G now.

Anybody else had this?

I believe the carrier update enabled 4g on your sim. So if your in a 4g area your good to go with 4g.

True but only when it goes live if he goes into a 4G area now he still won't get 4G.

Carrier updates is applying settings to your phone handset for things like, voicemail, internet, photo messaging, tethering etc
You will still have to receive a sim update before you will get access to the 4g network.

Three mobile.

I live in Manchester and that's one of the three cities that Three mobile said will be getting 4G in December.

By "Sim update" do you mean I need a new one? Because Three already said we don't need a new SIM card for 4G. All we will get is an update.

FFS.

I was asking whether he meant that I would need a new SIM card entirely or just a small update that Three send out, a carrier update.

Sim Update and Carrier Updates are different things.

Carrier Update is an update that Apple give their iPhones. This includes network, calling, cellular data, messaging, personal hotspot, and voicemail settings.

Sim Updates are done by the network and work on all phones. They may do similar stuff to Apples carrier updates but they relate to you the subscriber and what services you subscriber to.

He means SIM update. SIM update explicitly describes a process of remotely updating SIM cards. If you don't know the meaning of the term, Google it.

It has nothing to do with carrier updates.

Him: "I need a new carburetor"

You: "Does that mean you're getting a new car?"

Me: "No, he said carburetor".
