It seems to be down.
Also noticed that other Google Services are having problems today. Had an error that Gmail virus scanners were down earlier.

Ah well, that's the problem then.

The problem is that your tablet is not allowed to use the Google Play Store.

Just because it's an Android tablet doesn't mean you can use the Play Store. Device makers have to pay Google to let their devices use the Play Store, and Gemini hasn't done this.

You need to use other app stores such as Amazon's.

There is a thread on modaco that offers a tool that installs the play store, and based on comments it seems to work.

That's interesting. So manufacturers who choose not to pay the license fee can still access the play store and apps.

That cannot be good for google in the long run.

Don't think it would have much effect really as it' really only bargain basement imported tablets that will come without Google Play. No major manufacturer would sell it without Google Play out of the box.

I'm getting "Unfortunately Google Newsstand has stopped" constantly on my Samsung Galaxy S2 running Jelly Bean and it's driving me nuts. I make a point now of sending the report each time it does it, because it even does it when I'm not using the app. Pissed off that I cannot access my magazines on my phone at all now. App just crashes.

As I mentioned above Google have been having some problems recently.
They are working on a fix for this, as it is affecting many Samsung tablets also.
One of my Android developers told me that and also turning on and off automatic updates has woken it up, as a temporary fix for some.

This may help also for the OP

Id assumed the OPs tablet was able to get the play store before from his words and it had just started getting this error, but a tablet that is not supported, then maybe not.

Thanks! Oddly, this seems to have done the trick. I'll try a reboot later to see if the fix is persistent. Brilliant!

That's because Sky only supports certain tablets.

Don't know who that is? Unless it was in the past as the latest Acer tablets definitely have Google Play support as so Asus ones.

The Acer Iconia tablets, or certainly the earlier versions certainly never came with the official play store

My dad had an Archos tablet that didn't use Google Play but it's own app store that didn't have the apps he wanted. It could be cracked to get it to work but he didn't want me to try it.
