Was thinking of replacing current television.

Current set has
2 HDMI
2 SCART
1 AV Component
1 Composite
1 Audio L/R out

All the televisions 26-32" I've looked at have:
2 HDMI
1 Scart
1 Component/Composite combined

So it looks like I've got to take good care of my TV.

Or you could buy a scart switch box, or an HDMI switch box if needed. The latter are very cheap.

SCART is effectively obsolete, we're lucky sets still have one legacy SCART

You might try looking at more expensive models, where you 'might' get 4 HDMI's, but one SCART is standard now.

Most sets also have optical audio out, and commonly a headphone/line output as well (particularly the Sony ones).

So what you are wanting to connect? - and if you're upgrading the TV why not upgrade your other gear to HDMI as well?.

2 HDMI
FTA Satellite (HD)
Raspberry PI (HD)

2 SCART
Xbox (Original)
VCR

1 AV Component
DVD Recorder w/Freeview tuner and HD

1 Composite
Playstation 2

Why are component and composite inputs combined on newer TVs?

I did have a blu-ray player but that's boxed up (HDMI)

was thinking of getting a NOW box but that's also HDMI I think there are composite out.

HDMI switch then, auto-ones work quite well and are manually/remote as well.

2 SCART
Xbox (Original)
VCR
Doesn't the Xbox have HDMI?, another input on the HDMI switch - and you'll get decent quality from it that way.

Bin the VCR!!!!

1 AV Component
DVD Recorder w/Freeview tuner and HD
Presumably it has HDMI as well? (as it's HD), so another HDMI switch input.

1 Composite
Playstation 2

Again, only there for legacy reasons - so it saves money to combine them.

Two more inputs on the HDMI switch

You're unlikely to find more than one SCART these days, but moving to a larger set might be a way to gain more HDMI inputs - and 32's are really pretty small these days.

It's an XBox, not Xbox 360 or Xbox so it uses scart
The DVD recorder HD = hard drive!

I've just starting think of replacing home cinema, many of these have enough inputs, hdmi, composite, component and optical & coax for audio.

HD - High Definition, HDD - Hard Disc Drive.

What you need is an AV amp.

They have many HDMI connections and 1 feed to TV, 1 cable

You need an AV amp that has a HDMI pass through so when the AV amp is switched off, it still allows the signal to go to tv

How many scarts on the VCR? If 2 you could route the Xbox through that.

Yes, the VHS does have 2 inputs (one free) and the DVD recorder also has 2 scart inputs (both free).
