I don't know who said it (I only saw 10 mins of the coming out show if it was on there?) but it always comes across as "I'm jealous of you, I know other people will be aware of this and say that I'm jealous of you, so I am going to make a point out of NOT being jealous and saying I'd rather be me than you".
Like... it doesn't sound like something someone who genuinely didn't care either way would say, does it? It wouldn't even enter my head to say about someone - "well, I'd rather be ME than YOU! SO THERE!"
In almost 23 years, it's not something that has ever entered my head, let alone come out of my mouth.
It's like those people that comment on DS articles saying "who cares? I don't".
...but by the very act of clicking the article, scrolling down the page, clicking inside the comment box, typing a comment and hitting submit... it comes across like if anyone cares, it's them.
That's how I "understand" comments like the one in this thread title. By making a specific point about how you'd rather be yourself and not someone else, it comes across the opposite way around.
It'd be better to say nothing at all.
