I must admit my eyebrows went up a notch when she sat on his lap in the limo. I am NOT implying anything untoward, it was just a dawning realisation of why Amy has turned out the way she has.

Exactly. here's her Mother in all of this? Hiding in the wardrobe out of shame? There was also something else I noticed, very strange, but we're getting into dodgy ground.
