My budget is between £300 - £400.

Ideally Samsung LCD, I am open minded though!

42"

It's going to be used primarily for gaming (Xbox One) so maybe 1080p? am I aiming out of my league for my price bracket?

Also, but not overly important, the thinner the frame/rim the better.

Thanks in advance for any help

At this price only one TV in the frame - the LG42LN575V. You're not aiming out of your league as this TV is a bargain in my opinion. £430 at John Lewis with a 5yr gtee. Hurry 'cause they're selling fast. The 39 inch sold out on Tuesday.

Thank you for your post!

It seems to have a lot of rubbish I'm not interested in tho, smart TV, wifi ect.

I've seen this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-UE42...rds=samsung+tv

Which is going for £399 in a lot of places and seems to go head to head with that LG without all the nonsense I don't want.

Just wondering if I can do better than this Samsung.

I'm sorry I thought it was the quality of the picture that was important to you. Nobody's forcing you to use the Smart features or the Wi-fi. Both the Samsung and the LG are good TVs. You're probably going to struggle to find better at £400 odd and 42 inches.

You should go to Richer Sound and compare both TVs side by side. If you give your local RS 24 hours notice they will be happy to do this for you. Last week I set up a demo of 2 TVs with RS Liverpool and they were very helpful. Ask them to use an HDMI splitter so you can see the same source on both TVs at the same time.

Thanks, I would very much like to see them side by side but I've never heard of Richer Sound, I don't think they exist in the south!

How much better is the picture quality on the LG over the Samsung do you know?

Richersounds very much DO exist in the south. Try their website to find a branch.

www.richersounds.com

As for image quality. Everyone has their own opinion. Only you can decide which is best as you are the one who is going to have to live with the telly.

Also be prepared to tweak the settings. If my experience of LG is anything to go by they don't set them up properly when they leave the factory. But once tweaked they are capable of very decent picture quality.

LG and Samsung are in the middle ground with Sony and Panasonic regarded as the top brands and the many Turkish/Chinese clone sets sold under a variety of names by the likes of Argos, Currys and the supermarkets down at the bottom end.

consider 46 " as well if you can

with xbox or ps 4 , the bigger the better for gaming, seeing the target is key.

Anyway you may get a 1080 p tv that doesn't have Freeview HD tuner for example.

You may you may find that switching off effects to improve the picture will also speed your response time in gaming as well, so that's another thing to consider.

Plasma will give you a faster response time also.

You may pick up one of the last Panasonic plasmas , just make sure its a 1080 tv , just doesn't accept a 1080 signal

you should also consider veiwing distance before deciding upon a size

there is no point get 42 inch or as the guy above said 46'' if you have to sit real close as it actually makes the quality worse if you sit too close

its also utter tosh that the bigger the screen the better for gaming

most pro gamers use small screens as they see everything at once...u gotta look around on a big screen

Curry's are crap, avoid them like the plague.

If the TV above does take your fancy, see how much cheaper you can get it for on the web.

I highly recommend Richer Sounds, got my last TV there and the service was excellent (as was the price).
