Hi,
For reasons I dont really want to go into, are there any tablets that are plastic screens and not glass? One that wouldnt shatter into a thousand pieces if it were dropped? Recomendations please? Thank you. |

No not really. It's for my sister she has brain damage from a car accident and has 24/7 care but can't use her laptop very well in bed so I thought she could have a tablet.
Her room and her bed are not like plush carpeted homes, think hospital ward and if she were to drop it out of bed onto concrete, well, that would be the end of most of them, even gorilla glass I suspect. |

For the tablet it would maybe worth looking for one with a resistive rather than capacitive type screen. Also any resistive screen would be plastic. Although they are getting harder to get now - might be worth just getting a tablet with a glass screen and then sticking it in a decent case. |

Why don't you consider a normal tablet with a protective case for kids - our friends' iPad can be happily thrown across the room...nice to hold, too.

I'd suggest going for a tablet based on spec and how it feels for you (and her). Regardless of what screen type you get, if droppage is a consideration, buy a screen protector - it'll give an element of protection, and if it is dropped and the screen cracks, the stick protector will stop bits from flying all over the place. There are plenty of rubberised cases available for tablets that'll give extra protection (got a fantastic one for my young sons Hudl). |

i agree gorilla glass will still break. but so will the tablet itself
you can get some pretty tough cases like this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/i-Blason-Gen...blason+nexus+7 |

Methinks that Archos Cobalt 8 tablet was plastic.
Maybe Tesco have arranged something new for a boxing day '£50 tablet' sale. In many ways the Cobalt was Tescos very first own brand tablet. |

I can't see your logic on that at all...
The Hudl is certainly the Tesco Archos relationship experiment continuing. Archos would have got near zero headlines if it called the tablet 'The Archos Hudl'. Both were made for Tesco by Archos. Boxing day is unlikely to be a cheap tablet. With Archos selling phones too, Tesco could really surprise us and launch the Hudl Phone. |

Well look up the facts, and those of the Hudl too.

More likely Tesco needed someone to manufacture a tablet for them and Archos were willing to do it cheaper than one of the major companies. |

The Archos Cobalt was not made for Tesco as other places sold it as well....
Tesco have long looked like Archos's biggest UK reseller. It certainly looks to be the precursor. Branded as Tesco rather than Archos it likely sells better. |
