Who would be interested in a non-celeb version of the show. I think it would be good because it wouldn't rely on star power and it would probably be an interesting thing to watch as we could relate to the contestants.

I would apply for this if it ever happens as it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity!!

Wouldn't be interested.

It would end up like Big Brother has with a load of young desperate wannabes wanting to be famous.

I don't think it would, anyway I was only thinking of it like a one-off series.

I would watch it, but then I am also a BB fan. I'm sure ages ago there was a civilian programme before it became a celeb show

I'd watch it ...but on the understanding it was available 24/7 so we can judge the people in there honestly and not have it set up to portray people anyway the producers wished

As I said a couple of weeks ago, when exactly the same question was asked...

This already happened a decade ago - it was called Survivor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivo...K_TV_series%29

Like Big Brother, the first series was superb.
Like Big Brother, the second series was much poorer.
Unlike Big Brother, it then died a swift and merciful death*

It was swiftly replaced by the 'similar but different and with Tony Blackburn'... I'm a Zeleb.

* Shame the BB producers forgot to follow suit the third time...

Strangely, Survivor is still going strong in the US. It's not often I credit our American cousins with better taste than us here in Blighty.

It could be called I'm Not A Celebrity, I Don't Deserve To Be Here!, but that applies to many previous series anyway

I'm A Celeb and Survivor are completely different formats, though. The reason Survivor didn't work over here was because there's no public vote, and the winner's decided amongst the castaways.

Plus, the challenges are different. It's not about gross-out challenges, but physical competition. There's also a strategic element regarding votes etc in Survivor. The winner is often (but not always) the best game player, not Mr Nice Guy who does bugger all then gets all the public votes a la BB.

Survivor is FAR superior to IAC, and a civilian IAC wouldn't be like Survivor at all.

ITV should just commission Survivor and also bring BBUSA format over to this country but under a new name.

They could call it 'I'm a Celebrity When I Get Out of Here'

Though the same could be said for the real version.

Generally speaking I dislike celebrity versions of reality shows such as Celebrity Masterchef or Celebrity Apprentice (Trump that is; Alan Sugar hasn't done it to my knowledge). They are never as good as having a cast of unknowns. But this show is designed for celebrities so I'm not sure it would work with unknowns. Also celebrity versions can be worth watching when you have someone likeable in the cast such as Amy.

i thought the first series of Survivor was one of the best TV series I have seen. I think the idea for IAC came from Survivor. In the second series, the public did have a say of sorts, but I think with a bit of tweaking, Survivor with the outcome decided totally by viewers could be terrific. The problem with the 2 camps in Survivor, especially the second series, was that it got too predictable who the last 4/5 would be. The challenges were not so "High Tech", but were not that dissimilar to the trials in IAC apart from everybody had to take part in each challenge.

What I love about Survivor, though, is that the public have no say. I wouldn't want the viewers to decide, The winner should be who played the best game, not just in challenges, but building alliances, strategizing etc. If it was a public vote Mr Nice-Guy who did nothing but sit around being friendly would walk away with the money, while Mr Strategy who made the risky moves and turned on people etc would be hated. Personally I'd love a UK version of Survivor, with it's current format. Having watched BB and IAC for a number of years, I can't help but feel the GBP aren't great at picking winners imo.

I agree. Rarely now do the GBP get to see the reality.

I agree! And if that had been applied to this year's IAC - then perhaps Lucy, Matthew or Rebecca would have won.

I've sometimes wondered what IAC would be like with the Survivor format, where the celebs would decide who wins etc. Obviously it would only work if they had something to play for, like they all agree a fee at the start but they only get it all if they win. Second place gets half their fee, and so on, with the percentage cut getting smaller the further down you place. It would be interesting to see just how much some of them would play, as opposed to the tried and tested method of sitting around, being pleasant yet dull, then winning. Celeb RTV's been around long enough for them to know how to play it for audiences. At least with a Survivor format we'd see a new side to the celebs, one they usually keep hidden I'd imagine.

ETA - I reckon if this year's IAC followed said format, Lucy would have definitely won.

What is the incentive for the participants if they do not win? Do they get paid before entering the jungle? Or do they simply live in a hell-hole for a month or so with little reward?

Unlike BB. You do not have proper food to eat (unless you really badly mess up your shopping task, punishment or a part of a task. but even that lasts for a day at best) you do not have a proper bed or hot water. I believe you have a bucket to crap and wee in and that has to be cleared out every day.

The jungle looks pretty disgusting to live in, whereas BB has the luxury of basic household things (apart from electronics) so you're not put through hell for possibly no reward.

I can't see anyone wanted to live in the jungle for a month running the risk of being rewarded with absolutely nothing. You could argue that you don't get anything if you finish runner up in BB but apart from having privacy and no outside contact (which they at least get many messages from home nowadays) they live in a house which as I've stated - it isn't covered in spiders and the smell of your own shit.

I'd like to see it happening but I can't see ITV willing to fork out many more thousands on top of the celeb's payouts just for an alternative.

I would love to see this. Maybe they can get Jedward to host it since they're not really doing anything right now & Ant+Dec are busy people.
