How long have you been a mind-reader? I'll save you the effort for next time - They're all there to earn a living.

got to turn over cant take this any more”

I miss proper 8 out of 10 cats, the countdown version has gone stale now. How many more jokes can they make out of letters and numbers ? After the introduction part, i'm already losing interest.

I also think Sean Lock and John Richardson are wasted on this version of the show, Sean Lock especially. He made me laugh so many times on regular 8 out of 10 cats, but he's just not the same on the Countdown version. How can he be when there is nothing else funny to say ?

I don't see why we can't get one series of each version of the show every year, that way we get the best of both and neither would go stale.

I agree. It must be a challenge having to think up new gimmicks and angles every week. With the regular quiz, fresh material was provided by the news stories each week.

But apparently the Countdown version gets better ratings than the normal quiz. Maybe it's a bit cheaper to make too as episodes can be recorded in blocks instead of once per week.

Although I agree the Countdown version is a bit repetitive, I personally don't rate the original show that much either. It was still just the same panel show guests regurgitating mostly the same quips each show, even if the subject matter did allow for a little more variation.

I catch the odd old episode sometimes and it really wasn't anything special. They're both mostly the same in the vibe/level of humour on display. It's not exactly highbrow comedy we're talking about.

Also, Rachel Riley is absolutely lovely, and seeing her in a more playful, relaxed way is probably a massive attraction in the ratings. She really adds to the appeal of this version I reckon.

This thread is about '8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown'.

I created this thread last year if anyone wants to bump that. 8 Out of 10 Cats - Which version do you prefer?

I can only assume Channel 4 get better ratings for the Countdown version than the original version, and therefore are minded to commission more series of the Countdown version.

I agree that the 'mascot' part of the last episode was funnier than I normally find it to be Sean and Jon still work well with what they've got on this show, but yeah, on the original they had more to make jokes about. Correct me if I'm wrong but I've read that Katherine Ryan and David Mitchell are the next guests?

According to the Radio Times, the next show has Roisin Conaty and Nish Kumar with Adam Buxton in Dictionary.

I have to watch via Torrents so am unaware of the channels, but wasn't "8 out of 10 Cats" a Channel 5 show, is there any indication that Ch 5 are still making the show at all ?

Strewth, how unworldly is Roisin - never heard of a stopcock!

I don't think there's a lot of acting involved for her as Jo in Man Down!

There's something different about this series and I can't quite work out what it is.

Did they always have that backdrop? It all looks darker than usual.

I wish they would bring back Cats and ditch Cats does Countdown, it has becoming boring and repetitve.

One of the great thing about Cats was it was topical, so it changed each episode, Countdown is just the same every week.

I was listening to Susie Dent talking about Catdown on 6Music a couple of days ago. O was tempted to watch but then saw it is presented by one of the Carrs, I can't stand either of them so they will not be gaining a viewer.

Adam Buxton is always good value on this show. He's like the classic era of the Simpsons in human form. But he should try to stop relying on Youtube commentators so much. I was laughing hard when he was slipping over the bathroom floor and 'dancing' to David Bowie's Let's Dance. Sometimes it really is the simple stuff that packs the hardest punch.

"Only tossers"

Adam Buxton, as always, was fantastic. Would love to see his show back on sky atlantic
