I don't care what some people say... Sam does have star quality. She is definitely not your average overs contestant. Look at how she commands the stage and interacts with the audience. OK, she might not be young, she might not be exactly current, but she has something. Something that undoubtedly, if refined, could make this woman an absolute star. I can sense something coming with Sam. I don't know what it is about her, but I just have a feeling she's not going to fade back into obscurity like some people think. I personally prefer Luke's music, and will be a fan of his material I'm sure, but Sam is the rightful winner and undeniably has that something extra.

(I've just posted this in another thread, and realised I wanted to make my own topic )

I also just posted this in the same thread you did, i want to display it here

They biggest thing people moan about sam is she sounds the same, how does enough is enough/ whos loving you/ if i were a boy, sound the same to her version on clown or candle in the wind LOL.

Also, they moan about he she "always" sings ballads, yet the other contestants get a bad song choice and they say its the producers fault and no-one gets a say in their song choice, so if the producers give the song choices they are the reason she always has to sing ballads and its not her fault at all..

I just dont comprehend.

Completely agree with everything you've said! Sam is so underrated as a performer, her ability to emote and get to the heart of each song is amazing. She may not be the most marketable or current act to ever appear on XF but there's definitely something special about her and I definitely see her having a successful career, even if it's not necessarily in the charts.

Do you think ITV would devote an hour to Sam like they did to Susan Boyle tonight?

Mary Byrne was also a "star" .. Where is she now?

I do agree that Sam B is the best vocalist this year but I really don't see her being a successful recording artist.. I think its all hype like we get every year.

The biggest problem Sam has is that people simply see her as too old to be a serious act in the future. If Sam was 16 and doing this, people would be all over her.

It is also true that she has done different types of song but people still say, "she sounds the same all the time". Well, so did Whitney Houston, so does Aguilera, Carey etc....

I will say again, Sam may never be the worlds greatest recording artist but she is a damn good singer and has constantly outsung everyone. If being predictable (as mentioned in other threads) means NOT putting a foot wrong and consistently delivering the goods, then she is as predictable as you can get and that is EXACTLY the kind of predictable that you need from anyone hoping to make the big time.

I agree with this. I've been surprised how much attention Sam has got this year when compared to the big belter overs in previous years

Personally, I don't see Sam as having success as a recording artist but I can see her going down the same route as previous overs like Andy and Brenda who now make a decent living in musical theatre. She has to be a shoo in for a guest run as Mama Morton in Chicago, surely

I can see the bright lights of Blackpool Pier beckoning her too.

I am surprised you like her as a Luke fan - out of tune shouting is more your thing then?

Sorry, your post is delusional - no offence

Sorry what? When did anyone ever say Mary was a star? Sam B is in a completely different league both with vocal ability and performance.

I like Sam, think she has a great voice and will be very happy to see her win this year and, no matter what, hope she carves a solid career as an entertainer in the years to come.

That said - OP, you are hugely overstating her abilities. She does not command the stage, she is awkward and looks a tad uncomfortable. This is partly because XF insist on Saturday Night Special "choreography" and this isn't working for SB. She may be versatile, but she does make every song sound the same. This could be a song choice issue, but it's still an issue.

In your opinion she doesn't command the stage and in your opinion she makes every song sound the same.

Well to that point the facts are. She sang on a cruise ship thus she is/was a Cruise Ship singer, you can't deny that fact as it was shown on the X-factor.

Well, yes. If it was somebody else's opinion I'd have put it in quote marks and provided a reference.

That aside, it's an objective, demonstrable fact that Sam is awkward and moves badly; she has the grace of a young cow. For whatever reason, she is also a bit reticent and couldn't command a performing dog. She's at her best when she stands still.

And really, she does make every song sound the same. It doesn't help that she only sings dreary chick-songs to begin with, especially the Elton, but it is all a bit one-dimensional.

Sam is a MUCH better singer than Mary Byrne, you only have to look at a comparison between these videos to work that out:

Really? For me Sam is the best performer out of all of them. I think she has loads of stage presence and command over the stage, for example her performance of New York New York was brilliant vocally but for me made really special by the way she performed it. Even when she just stands still she's still able to keep an amazing command over the stage and is particularly great in really emotional performances. Admittedly she hasn't moved a whole lot during her performances but when she has I think she's been fine and it hasn't come across as awkward at all, for me at least. I get that we all have different opinions and she may come across differently to how she comes across to me but I really don't think she'd be as popular as she is if she was unable to control the stage, XF has shown countless times that more than just a good voice is needed...

She's no worse than Tubs or Tiny that's true.

Then we might have found a source of disagreement. Though not much of one, as they were, mostly, a bit wooden.

No one should really be debating Sam B's physical appearance or personality - she made efforts to change her physical appearance and she appears to be a lovely lady. It's her musical style which puts some of us off. Her tone just sounds too deep and husky which sounds like moaning cruise ship singing. Turning pretty songs like Bleeding Love and Clown into moaning fests. She definitely does hit the notes (not always though like in Make You Feel My Love)...but it's just that tone which is a bit weird.
