Tassimo - making tea
I have just bought a Tassimo machine and I love it. It would be very convenient to dump my kettle. I see that you can buy a special disk to dispense hot water to make tea with a conventional teabag. What is wrong with using the service disk instead?

I think from memory because you have to hold down the button all the time to get it to work. Ok if you want to wait several minutes with your finger on the button but not really convenient if you are dashing around trying to do other things too.

Thanks for your reply, but that is not correct with the T20 that I bought today. Just press the Start button as usual and it dispenses a normal cupful of hot water. The setup routine is to do this 4 to 5 times.
I have since thought of two possible reasons to buy the special disk: 1. It offers 3 selectable volumes of water to dispense. 2. It *may* produce water at a better temperature for tea than the service disk does (I don't know). |

Ah it was one of the older models I used to use, several years ago now at work. I prefer tea to coffee and it used to seem to take an age to make a simple cup of tea so I ended up taking in a little kettle and hiding it in my cupboard.

Thanks OP, just ordered the water disc., they must be pretty new as never seen them on the site before.
I have tried using the cleaner disc before just for hot water, but I didn't find the water was good enough to make a cup of tea with a tea bag. Maybe your correct about a temperature difference, I'll soon find out I guess. Bought some of their latte glasses too as the Costa Latte over fills my old latte glasses we've had for years. |

The service disc just puts the unit into a service mode which is basically used as a flush and used to put the unit into a descaling mode at certain intervals using a certain temperature which I'm not too sure of. The hot water disc has 4 water volumes 150ml,250ml,350ml,450ml which will dispense at a temperature of between 80-90°C. Is there a noticeable difference between just using the service disc instead of the hot water disc? Yeah I do think so, I certainly noticed a difference in tea quality when brewing a tea bag, with the service disc being to poorer of the two. I'm glad I've got this disc now and it's pretty much bye bye kettle for making mugs of tea from now on. Thanks dondon for this thread as otherwise I wouldn't of known about the hot water disc .

How much do they charge for said disc as a matter of interest?

I never tried the service disk, but I got a hot water disk as part of my initial order anyway and it certainly makes fine tea and instant coffee
![]() The only issue is that you need to pop out the 'spout' part to use it - no big deal. I got an email yesterday that for a limited time, if you order £40 or more of drinks, you can get a free hot water disk. |
