Most songs have pretty rubbish lyrics.
You mean tango songs, or argentinian songs, or songs in general?

Or are some just a lousy translation?

Pop songs mostly have lousy lyrics.

When I translate songs I don't do a literal translation and try and fit with the sense. Translation in general in fact.

I translated "Si nos dejan" a while back. Still in draft.

I'll have to fine tune it and post it for comments to see if it fits the music. Maybe good for a Rumba.

.......

I think Goton Project who in some respects have revitalised the musical genre in the modern day are French and Spanish ???? Even non AT dancers will be familiar with their music, as it is used for other things including advertising everything from diamonds to dishwasher tablets.
Interesting.
Examples?
I think it was called summat like 'Una Musica Brutale' that Pasha and Chelsee danced their AT to.
I liked it,quite a lot.

Oh I am sorry Jim. This is the one that everyone will know, even if they don't know they know it. If you see what I mean

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-DkkpGk5h0

It is really popular with advertisers. I am guessing something to do with the cicadas at the beginning of the piece.

Not to be muddled with sacadas, which is the AT step in which one partner replaces the footprint of the other really fast, so you get that legs kicking each other out of the way optical illusion.

My AT teacher pronounces Sacadas as Cicadas. So with his Spanish accent he is actually saying "Today class we will be working on our crickets" I can see the Spanish native speakers in the class put their chins to their chests to mask their grins.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9lfdx-h6u0

Here is another Gotan track. My favourite (well today it is! )

And the one you mentioned

Tell him to be open his vowels and he should open his "As" [pronounce "A" Spanish style] That should get the other half of the room worked up.

I don't listen to 'pop' music, so I expect what I prefer to listen to has much better lyrics.

A Spanish brother in law told me he was learning English to be able to understand English music. I told him that I never listen to the lyrics.

A bit random... but thanks I can watch Gene Kelly all night long.

Sadly my bubble burst shortly after I posted that. Frankie and Kevin's salsa track was cited and then my expectations dropped completely off a cliff when I saw their training footage. It looks as if we are to get another salsa free salsa. Why don't they just drop this dance if they can't be bothered to even try to do it with a modicum of authenticity.

OK here is

Miguel Angel Zotto & Daiana Guspero La Cumparsita (much too flashy for my liking)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tKeMopEN60

Chicho - La Cumparsita (not keen on it. OTT as well as he often is)

Especially galling when they can produce great waltzes (I think) as per Simon and Kristina.

How do they manage on that surface. It looks like a faux cobbled slab payment and she appears to be wearing louboutins?

And what is odd about this clip?

London ones are usually oblong. Looks Spanish as round but they are yellow. Cold be British ones.

C&A is going strong in Spain and much of Europe - and in Argentina as we see. My first suit was from C&A.

Ballroom Tango is often danced to this too. Not a track that thrills me much, I have to say. Have danced to it many, many times. Authentic though, so thats good,

Enjoy the show tonight peeps. I won't see it until later. I am out hosting a Mixed Latin Christmas party. Its aimed at a mixed audience and the idea is to blend normal UK/US party tracks with Latin. Its very light hearted and casual, anything goes, the music is usually Latin pop with a spot of AT, Flamenco and more hard core salsa thrown in. People can dance what ever style they want from shuffling around the handbags to a full on Sevillanas. Focus is on spot not progressive dances for obvious reasons.

Which has got me thinking. Has anyone ever tried or seen tried blending AT with social ballroom? ( ie progressive dances of mixed genres) I am quite happy dancing AT to non AT tracks ( although draw the line at Zorba the Greek ) But I like dancing to jazz especially and have A Tangoed to the odd rock track. I am wondering if it would work to do something similar to the above in a ballroom not a club for mixed styles. By that I mean at any given time people might be on the floor dancing different styles to the same track.

Possible, barking or barking but possible?

Pretty normal at after-wedding dances in the hotel ballroom.

What could people dance to this club track (that I posted in another thread)?
