I live in Spain and OH brought over a HUDL for me. Gradually getting to grips with my first tablet, however I have a big BUT.. It is preloaded with playstore app which will only let me download Spanish books. I want English books, Please can someone tell me how to do this. I haven't got a kindle, but Ido have laptop and netbooks. I assume when I sign into someof the apps they recognise I am in Spain and only provide Spanish info. I was looking for free books initially, but if I have to buy stuff it's not a problems as I have English bank card etc, but they are registered to my Spanish address.
By the way I am not very tech savvy, so please bear with me if I ask basic questions
Thanx

When you say you want English books do you mean you want to buy them via an app ? Will the Kindle app not work ? I am not sure how it works abroad but Kindle app is tried to your Amazon account so the books you buy will appear on there.

Apologies if I misunderstood the question.

seems google play store uses ip address / bank card billing to determine region

there's a suggested way here
http://theappjuice.com/google-play-u...-in-the-world/
to get US play store using a free vpn
maybe try similar with a uk based vpn

Before you get into technical stuff, it might be better if you explain where you are trying to buy books from, and how.

well the OP mentions 'playstore app' so I assume they are trying to buy through the google Play store - hence my suggestion, which was only a suggestion as I haven't needed to do it myself

It may be that there are other more reliable ways to buy English language books
buying kindle books from www.amazon.co.uk as opposed to www.amazon.es may be one of them

Well Hudl came with Google Playbox installed already, so I was going to try and download some free ones from there, that was when I found I could only get Spanish books. I am new to ereaders but most people I know seem to have a Kindle and download from Amazon. I just thought It would be useful to have some books to read when we go on holiday.
Someone suggested I download Expat shield for a vpn, so I tried that on my netbook, but it just made everything on netbook stop working, so I have taken it off.(i thought I might be able to download books to netbook, transfer them to USB then onto HUDL...but what do I know) I'm just learning about using a tablet, so at the moment it seems quite strange

You do know you can get the Amazon Kindle app for android

I have that on my Hudl

What I do is put downloaded books into my Google Drive folder on my laptop, let it upload

Hudle also has Google Drive app, so go to Hudl open Google Drive there and open book

I use Hudl to read books which have illustrations - Kindle paper just isn't good for that

Although the Kindles much better for text books IMO

Course I'm not getting books from Google Play, there's lots of other places for free books like project gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.org/

I agree with the others. Go to Amazon.co.uk and create an account there, if you haven't done already. Register your UK bankcard to it for payments. Buy a couple of Kindle books. Download the Kindle App for Hudl. Link it to your Amazon.co.uk account. Hey presto, you can download all your Amazon books.
