Nicole stole the show tonight. She sang vocal circles around Sam Bailey...it was almost funny how much she crushed Sam in that. Her passion and charisma on the stage combined with that range and upper register is gobsmacking. She really felt that song.

Nicole is such a rare talent and not enough people appreciate her. Great job girl.

Nicole has a great voice but I found it all very embarrassing. Her desperation to outsing Sam was palpable.

Hardly in the spirit of the evening.

Desperation? Not really Nicole's fault if she gives it 100% in whatever she does? And actually she had a lot more stuff she could have done with it and her range goes even higher...so actually she was graciously showing some restraint there.

How is it Nicole's fault if Sam is not at the same level as her?

It certainly smelt like desperation to me. Nicole is supposedly the established act, and it just seemed as if she was determined to shriek and shout her way to vocal dominance.

I thought they were both a big loud mess. I hate the fact that VERY LOUD is seen to be proof of talent on these kinds of shows.

To me, it just sounded like Nicole was in a completely different league to Sam.

Nicole didn't try to outsing her. She just sang and it just so happens that she's better.

Exactly - there are so many bitter people here that their beloved second coming was outdone. It's not Nicole's fault if she's better than Sam. She was showing plenty of restraint in that too, she could have gone even higher if she wanted.

I knew Nicole was a good singer but I didn't know she was that amazing. She didn't even look like she was trying with the big notes. I wish she would showcase them more though instead of choosing to release pop songs. At least after that performance, no one can say that she doesn't deserve to judge singing talent.

What baffles me is comments such as 'Nicole tried to outsing Sam' - tried? Nicole didn't try, it was effortless. She really felt the song and you could really connect with her. She could really have shown off more if she wanted to but she didn't. If she wanted to outsing then we'd be witnessing something even more spectacular.

I've seen a few posts saying that she can do even better than the duet. Do you have a link or anything so I can see? I've only really seen her raw vocals when she sung 'Feeling Good' acapella on the Pussycat Dolls live DVD a few years ago. I don't think she consciously tried to out-do Sam either, I think it's just what she does naturally when she performs - giving it all her worth.

Because she was given the better parts to win.

If swapped, I'm sure Sam would have sang just as well (and she did).

Great duet.

My tablet is no good for links. Worth looking at don't cry for me Argentina, phantom of the Opera and I think there is a couple of duets, one with Odell and one with Natasha Bedingfield. Shows a range of styles, also check out her dancing on Dancing with the Stars in US. Very impressive!

There is also a funny moment on US Xfactor when she does some Whitney after a snide comment from Simon!

Why are people using it as an excuse to bash Sam?

How long has Sam been doing it for? Once a week for 9 weeks? Nicole has years of experience in the industry itself, of course she's in a higher league. No need for comparison.

I thought it was a brilliant duet bar the technical issues which meant it sounded as though Jedward where trying to speak over the performance. But both, for me, are excellent singers.

Check out her performance at the 2011 Royal Variety Performance where she sang the part of Christine with the singers John Owen-Jones, Ramin Karimloo, Earl Carpenter & Simon Bowman. It's mind blowing. It's available on You Tube.

However to be fair, Nicole has been a professional singer for over 15 years and has a backghround as a rock singer as well as in musical theatre. It's extremely unfair to even try and compare the two as the professional is always going to win.

Sam did a great job and has a faultless vocal range, she has not yet quite got the same technical ability but that will come as she proper vocal training. It takes years, not the 4 months she has had on the X-Factor.

To be fair, effortless Beyoncé took Alexandra to school, but it didn't dull Alex's shine. If not for the camera angles, same can be said for Sam.

It was the worst duet ever. Yes even worse than the cheesy blandfest that were Shane "struggling without Westlife" Filan and little jug ears.

OK so perhaps they had discussed beforehand who was going to sing which parts, but it was almost like Nicole was the contestant trying to show off her range and not poor Sam. We all know Nicole is a talented singer with a wonderful range but she is not the one the public is voting for. Hasn't anyone told her?

Completely disagree. It made Sam look average.

I like Nicole, but dont think she has the greatest of voices but I still enjoy her singing. She oozes of charisma and could beer to a brewery.

Perhaps Sam was overwhelmed by Nicole and found it hard to do her best.I dont think Nicole was trying to outsing Sam IMO.

Yes but Alex was a lot more proficient as a singer than Sam IMO. I think Sam is very good and like her and hope she wins.

It's not really about whether Nicole was a better singer and could outsing her or not. It's about the fact that the celeb in the duets should be generous in giving the contestant the chance to shine. It shouldn't be them saying "I'm the star here" I'm afraid Nicole did not have that generosity. A true celeb would have been confident enough in their own talent that they could step back a little. It says a lot about the Celebs ego when they behave like that. She was the same with Jahmene last year.

why should the duet partner turn in a half-hearted performance just to make the contestant look better than they are ?

if the contestant is good enough and wants to compete in the real world they should show they deserve it

I agree. She doesnt understand what it means to be a team player. Its irrelevant if she can sing or not. She is there to create and guide a new star.

As I said in another topic, she seems so desperate to prove she can sing so I think she should enter as a contestant. Shes cleary not grasping the judge/ mentor role.
