BT Youview teletext
Its stopped working?
I tried to change the remote to operate the Samsung TV, which it does, kind of, volume and on off work, nothing else. About the same time the txt button stopped working on any channel, no red button shows up either, I reset the remote, still no txt. Anyone else get this or know a fix, ? The Mrs uses txt a lot and has to switch the Sky box back on to read it, or the tv freeview. Thanks |

Have you tried soft-resetting the Youview box?

Touch and hold the standby button for eight seconds or so until the boot screen shows on the TV. Same effect as powering off and on at the back. No loss of recordings, timers or user settings involved.

It worked for a few hours then went off again, If we knew it was this bad I would have sent the box back within the first 10 days and cancelled, now were stuck with it, using the txt on tv or the sky box now.

The Humax MHEG engine is a bit flakey however you should be able to reset it better doing a hard reboot, that is turn off the unit (making sure no recordings are scheduled) then turn the rear power switch off. Wait about 30 seconds or so and then turn the unit back on again; rear power switch first then the front circle or use the remote
Technically teletext ended with analogue switch off. The BBC now calls its text service "red button" and is only available on SD channels. The HD channels do not link to the red button services - the old HD Red Button channel's bandwidth is being used for BBC Three HD. If you want to watch one of the supplementary mini-episodes etc that ask you to press the red button, key in 301 instead as that is the correct SD channel. |

All the BBC SD channels are on a single mux (frequency) which carries the Red Button data as well as the SD channel programme data. The HD channels are carried over two muxes (or a single mux if you are in a "Freeview lite" area and unable to get BBC Four and BBC News in HD). The HD muxes carry five HD channels and there is now no spare capacity for the red button data or extra programming. For technical reasons, it is not possible to access a different frequency using a different broadcast standard while watching an HD channel on terrestrial television. Satellite based text services use a slightly different method of delivering the data which is why you can use it on Sky. |

I have recently installed a new BT G4 Humax box in place of my original Huawei (I am a TalkTalk customer).
The newer box is just so much more responsive and a pleasure to use. I can even record from the TalkTalk boost channels. Overall, very pleased and a bigger hard drive to boot (no pun intended). HOWEVER! Like other posters I cannot get the text service to work (from SD channels of course). I have tried both a soft and hard reset without success. This is pretty poor considering teletext has been around on the digital platform for years. I have searched for response from BT, Humax and Youview but can find nothing to suggest that any of them are sorting out a fix. Has anybody found any more news on a likely fix? Ta! |

Thanks for the info. I have tried a further reset due to the BBCiPlayer not working and have now got both working again!
Small niggles, I know, but I have older equipment that has no problem with digital text , or the iPlayer. I appreciate that Youview is a 'work in progress', but we shouldn't have to cross our fingers before pressing the text or red button! !
