Can't speak for Lisa, but I use standard PS4 pad with standard layout. For camera view I prefer the furthest behind the car view, although this means I often miss the best graphical experience! Just my preference though.

Tried the challenge again last night and didn't get any ghosts other than my own

Can you turn off the face off challenges that appear on the track? I am finding some of those is certain places can be really distracting.

I improved my time so I am happy. I am not expecting to be competitive as I only got the game a couple of days ago but just driving around and around trying to improve my time is fun.

This game seem to have a few quirks to its handling.

Yeah, sometimes the lead ghost doesn't show, which can be a pain.

Don't think you can turn the face-offs off.

Does this challenge finish tonight or tomorrow? Haven't managed to spend any real time on it yet, and I need to set up the next one too.

I consider myself a seasoned racer and know about racing lines etc but my problem is I'm extremely slow at this game, the handling is possible too different to what I'm used to with Gran Turismo, Forza Motersport Formula One (all without any assists) being my preferred choice. I think more practice is certainly needed in the offline Tour mode.

Ah! I'm using the cock-pit view as I do with all racing games, do you think the external view helps you with getting better lap times?

I think it's just what you're used to. I use the bonnet cam as I find it gives a good sense of speed but still gives you some idea of where the car is relative to the road.

For me, I find the cockpit view too restrictive.

As for controller, I just use the DS4, though I have switched the handbrake to 'square' as that's what I was used to on NFS Rivals.

I'm also no good at drifting either, lol. Too much sim racing, methinks.

I always struggle with cockpit view on any driving game, normally in racers I have main front view or bonnet view for your reasons above however in Driveclub I prefer my cam behind the car and I'm not really sure why lol, maybe it's because I can anticipate corners better.

Wash, if you wanted you could Shareplay with somebody. That way the other person would be able to see what you're doing and give you pointers.

But at the end of the day, practice will go a long way.

Had a go at the latest challenge set by the DS guys and i'm about 15-20 seconds off the top time. Some of the guys really have mastered how to take the corners and the cars they are driving in.

i'm improving every time i play it unfortunately when i improve in one section i screw another up i just want to shave another couple of seconds off and i'll be happy. I don't drive irl so using automatic transmission but making some of the gear changes myself as the game doesn't change up fast enough.

IME wheels are slower than pads, more fun probably, but just not delicate or precise enough.

Personally I think view point makes a difference. I like the cock-pit view because it looks so pretty, but I do consistently better using the bumper view. I hate the look of the outside view but find it so much easier to do the drift events using that view.

This game more than any other driving game really gives me a dilemma over which view to use. Do I pick the nice looking cock-pit view for the next-gen feel or do I choose the ugly outside view because I can perform better using it on some events.

I guess once the buzz of a new game wears off I will just pick whichever view I can get the fastest times with, but for now I will keep racing the cock-pit view for the most part.

I get bored after a dozen or so times at most. This one has been an exception as its a new track & I've maybe done it about 20 times but I can't be bothered doing any more laps

I've always found the opposite, I'm always way faster with a wheel compared to using a pad.

I've always found that the extra precision you get with a decent ffb wheel/pedals & the extra feedback you get via the ffb gives a much better feel for what the car is doing which helps with precision & that allows me to set faster times.

There is a setting that seems to turn them off alongside the hud opacity settings. I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head but I'll have a look next time I'm on and report back if you haven't already figured it out.

Some of us need that many attempts to get a decent time.

Also, if I 'know' I can improve, I'll keep going until I feel I've done the best I can. Given the ease at which I tend to mess up, it can lead to a high number of attempts - I don't like leaving time on the track. (Particularly when Yuffie is ahead of me )

No just the standard DS4, but I did swap the buttons to have accelerate as R1 and brake as L1. I also use the bumper cam as that gives me the best view of what the car is doing at all times in relation to the AI, barriers, etc, especially when the cars get a bit of sideways action. It also helps with anticipation of the road ahead and knowing exactly where I need to place the car and when I need to start braking or prepare for a flick at full speed.

As the saying goes, practice makes perfect, getting used to how each car handles and the nuances of each track. The new Japan tracks have basically just been a lesson in trial and error figuring out does doing xyz make me any faster or slower - those average speed face offs help a lot with that.


On this track, more than most it's so easy to bugger up the whole lap on the slightest error and you need 2 perfect last sectors on consecutive laps to ensure the maximum best and it's a new track so it takes a while to get into the rhythm of it.

Yeah, this is a great track for the challenge. I done another 2 laps, bettered my time but on the second sector before the tunnel, I drifted a tiny little bit and it all went to $hit. I aim to try and be in the top 5 as I know I have no chance of getting first as my reactions are poor due to my MS and I have optic neuritis, so top 5 is a big acheivement for me 😄

Hats off to those dedicated to keep pushing themselves though, I just can't be bother lol

I'll have a look later, I don't mind them on the tour events but found them very off putting when racing around the challenge track trying for a time.

I'm one of the people with over 40 laps done. You don't miss them racking up on a track like this. I spent about an hour on Tuesday and an hour yesterday on it and as Lisa said, one wrong twinge on a lap makes a balls of it. And there's nearly 20 people doing the challenge so it's quite competitive.

As for the face offs, I used to find them distracting but now I don't even notice them. In fact sometimes they can be a good help. Like the driving line one and the average speed ones can be very helpful to see how you're daring out against other people on a particular corner. The drift ones are useless as I find drifting slows you down. But I do like to try and beat them all on a lap that I've already fudged up.
